MOSCOW (Reuters) - A Russian tank crashed through a villager's house after the crew stopped to buy more vodka at a nearby shop.

"Of course, there were violations but the crew acted in good faith to catch up with its unit"

They sure TANKED that part of the exercise.

I like the fact that they needed MORE Vodka. As if what the army provided wasn't enough. And to quote the homeowner, TANK God it didn't shoot.

So, basically, he is blaming the house for being in the way.

TANKS for the memories. An M-1 did that during REFORGER '89. No vodka bottles were around though, only Asbach(sp?).

Actually it's officially NOT encouraged, yet most commanders will look the other way as long as they get a swig themselves. The Russian armed forces is mainly a conscript army. They come in for a couple years and then leave. You won't find many professional soldiers like a western army. That crew's pretty damn lucky it's not the 1970's, or they would probably have been shot. Not so much for hitting the house, but for falling behind in the first place.

Must really TANK to be those poor buggers...
