Just read this article about the return of Expedition XVI to the ISS: http://www.spaceflightnow.com/station/exp16/080419landing.html

Pretty cool about Peggy Whitson now holding the US Space Endurance record!!

What was this quote about, though: ""Station, Moscow, on SG-1 for landing," a flight controller called from Moscow."

Who or what did SG-1 refer to!?! [Big Grin]

That is just awesome.

Yeah I liked that too. I was thinking of using it as my sig file quote! [Smile]

It's quite... "Janeway-esque". [Big Grin]

"There's coffee in that nebula!"

"Mr. Paris, set a course for the nebula."

"But ma'am,there is a civilization being wiped out with biological weapons by the Tarkadgeoallens on the next planet"

" There's coffee in that nebula! We can't pass up a chance to refuel our percilators. Set a course for the nebula, maximum warp."

Screw you, I don't drink coffee. [Wink]

I could have spelled it "perkilater".

I haven't heard of anyone using a percolator in like 20 years anyway. But the thing is, you know, "ci" is not pronounced "ki" but rather "si." Grammar police have spoken. [Razz]

OMG what a thread hijack!! [Big Grin]

Yes, much like "ce", also. Though I hear the British are skeptical about that.

Like when?

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

(The joke is that they spell it "sceptical".)

Oh. ...Really pulled a Sean on that one didn't I. [Big Grin]

You can have my percolator, if you can pry it out of my cold, dead kitchen.

Percolators are very established in Sweden. Despite the easier maintenance than ordinary machines it is also a thermos in its own so the coffee keeps fresh longer than in a glass pot, without getting overheated and bitter. Throw in some arrack on the side and you got yourself a cup of "omg lol coffee".

Also good on the side, beef sandwich with creamed horseradish. Oh god I hate these weeks before payday.
It is pronounced with a "k" though, perkolator.

Sounds like Peggy Whitson and crew are somewhat lucky to be home in one piece.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,351796,00.html

They landed 20 minutes later than scheduled and 260 miles off target. The article also said they experienced 10 g's, although I'm not sure whether or not that's normal for a Soyuz capsule reentry.

I just got a fit of giggles when I thought of Whitson saying to a fellow *naut, "Does this descent vector make my ass look big? I feel like I weigh a ton!"

I was going to say "Not till TSN gets here, but he's been here, so go forward and correct!!

Whitson now holds the U.S. endurance record with a cumulative 377 days in space during two station expeditions. She broke the previous U.S. mark of 374 days on Wednesday, eclipsing a record set by astronaut Mike Foale. Whitson now ranks 20th in the world for space endurance and 16th on the list of most experienced spacewalkers. She carried out one spacewalk during her first flight in 2002 and five during Expedition 16 for a total of 39 hours and 46 minutes.

I seem to remember that polemic man from South Carolina that took every opportunity to explain that SC didn't fight for the South in the civil war. Or was it the other way around?

Oh, and Redquack, or whatever his name was. Paranoid kid who thought TrekBBS was singling him out to destroy the cred of his internet persona.

None of these guys where thick per se, I think, just weird.

And you guys kind of sort of like me...right? [Confused]

I don't remember that SC guy. I do remember Red-whatever-his-name-was, though.
