I play the Starfleet Command Games and often I download new models for them. However I've noticed that my computer seems to recognize the file containing the model as an mpeg, which of course it isn't. Any way to fix this?

Alter your file associations? Just a guess.

Posted by Mars Needs Women (Member # 1505) on :

How do I do that?

Posted by Ritten (Member # 417) on :

Right click on the file, hit properties, and you will see it there.

Posted by Mars Needs Women (Member # 1505) on :

Nope, doesn't do it. It tells me what type of file it is but it doesn't let me change it.

Right click, open with, select the program you want and tell it to always use that program. Sometimes even that doesn't work, Windows seems to really really want to open certain files with WMP no matter what I tell it...

Well its set to open with another program, not WMP. Yet the files are still listed as MPEGS. God damn retard computer of mine.

What about opening up an explorer window, click tools -> Folder Options -> File Types, then look for it in the list, delete the original file association and make a new one and associate it with whatever program. See if that helps.

That did it, thanks!

Also, that picture is useless with hidden extensions. Just sayin', y'know.

Since this seems to be the current computer help thread, does anyone know how to turn filter keys off? Sometimes I stay on the shift key too long, which appearently turns filter keys on, and then screws with my mouse clicks, and turns everything I type into capital letters, w/o the CAPS lock being on. I just had to restart my pc to turn them off, but that is a pain in the butt. Any suggestions?

Press and hold the right shift key for five seconds. That'll turn on one of the other accessibility things, which will include instructions on turning them all off.

Thanks.

Posted by Ritten (Member # 417) on :

Sean, you need to be a bit more shiftless in the future.

Posted by Sean (Member # 2010) on :

Well, sometimes I zone out when I'm typing, to think about what I'll type next, and my hand will fall there from habit.

Can't you stick it in your crotch like a normal teenager?

[Roll Eyes]
I just died a little inside Shik.

Just open a Command Prompt and type in:

CD\

then:

Del *.*

then:

y

Solves ALL your computer problems

and deletes everything on your C drive.......which will also further prepare you for life after school and in the job market.

Hmm, I just tried that command, Wiz. Here's what I got:
code:
-bash: Del: command not found

What's that mean? [Razz]

(...Once again proving that you should never type in the command line without thoroughly researching what you're typing first!)

AH THE GOOD OL' DAYS OF DOS

Er, I'm not running DOS. I opened the Terminal on my Mac, which uses bash for its CLI. That was supposed to be the joke.

Yep, people nowadays are too dependent on flashy GUI's and annoying little jingles when you make a fuckup.

Not that I'm one to talk, I haven't used DOS in so long I can't even remember how do half of anything.

Sorry M-man....I've never gotten a joke...or a Mac.

We Debian's say the same thing as MM.

So will anything that isn't DOS that's a command line, guys. Any flavor of Linux, Unix, or any other OS. As command line interfaces go, DOS is weak and crippled and mentally challenged.

Right. That was also part of the joke. As in, "not everybody uses Windows." [Wink]

I've got two XP boxes here someplace.
