That's right, disarm the KLA. They're raving lunatic bastards who kill for pleasure and can't be trusted. Also, KFOR troops should do more to protect the innocent majority of Serb civilians from the understandably mad Albanians. I know it sounds obvious, but then why the *naughty word* don't they do it?

NATO is disarming the KLA....they're disarming everyone(Serbs, KLA, etc.) that comes through their checkpoints.

I'd let the KLA wander around for a while with their machine guns. Let the Serbs what it is to live under fear. Of course, if they actually open fire, they should be killed immediately. But until they start blowing away civilians, I say let them wander around. The NATO troops should focus on clearing out the Serbs and taking control of the province so that refugees can come back in. And, frankly, I'd rather see the KLA stand-down then be completely disbanded. Give the Serbs something to think about.

The "Serbs" don't have anything to think about, seeing as how they're just the general populace. Unless you're suggesting that the best way to end hatred is to increase revenge.

If the Serbs know the fear, perhaps they won't sit back and let their leader inflict the exact same thing on to others. The Serbs leaving Kosovo is what I call poetic justice. They all seemed content when it was the 90% ethnic majority being expelled, raped, and executed. Now, the tables have turned, and their getting a taste, a very small taste, of what the Albanians went through.

I'm not a believer in revenge. If it wasn't right the first time, it's sure as heck won't be right the second time. And all revenge does and open the door for most hostile actions.
Disarming everyone is the best idea for the moment. Although there is irony in the only people having the guns being the peacekeepers.

The only people with guns are the peacekeepers AND the bloody Russians who seized the Pristina airport and are refusing to give it up. This will lead us to attack, starting WW3, and thus killing us all...

I am no prophet but u don't need to be one to predict that there will be more blood shed in this region in another few years, despite Nato and UN intervention.
Just how long are the allies staying? I say within 10 years of Nato an the UN pulling out, it will degenerate into another hotspot.

Funny, it doesn't seem like the "raving lunatic bastards" are the ones responsible for leaving the mass graves of 70-80-odd civilians scattered across the Kosovar countryside. Wasn't the "raving lunatic bastards" shooting people fleeing the country who didn't have enough money to bribe the Serbian guards to their satisfaction.
Personally, I think you have to be a "raving lunatic bastard" to call upon a people to give up their means of self-protection once the allies pull out. Stand them down, disarm them, (which is what's being done, by all reports - though understandably many of them are wary about giving up their self-defense capabilities) but don't disband them. If Milo tries something like this again (and he probably will, unless he's smartened up considerably recently,) he should get bitten back.

I find it interesting that the phrase NATO used went from "disarm" to "demilitarize" in regards to the KLA. They don't quite mean the same thing, I think. In any case, taking away the weapons of the KLA will take a lot of time, according to reports I've heard they number well over ten or twenty thousand, so they can't all be disarmed in a short period of time. The KLA is also helping to clear mines and traps left by the Serbs. So NATO doesn't have a compelling reason to try to disband the KLA right away.
I don't think that anyone, KLA or NATO, would be dumb enough to start a shoot out with the Russians. NATO is being very carefull in avoiding direct confrontation with the Russians, who have proved unpredictable at best over the past week or so.

And given the recent increasing evidence of atrocities (torture chambers, etc), I'd be even less inclined to disarm the Kosovars.
Found in a Serb "Police Headquarters:" A broken baseball bat labeled "Mouth Shutter" (not in English, of course), pics of arrested and beaten women and children, a stash of condoms for rape purposes...
