In the conversation between VP Gore and Gov George Bush on the matter of retracting the concession, the governor of Texas told the VP that his brother had assured him that his win in Florida was a done deal. What could this mean? In Florida, we are receiving confirmed reports that ballots were illegal (punch holes for Buchanan were to left of name, not right as stated in law); voters, both black, hispanic, and white, turned away at the polling booths; and so on. Could this be part of the done deal? ------------------

Personaly, yes, I agree that something is "rotten in Denmark" er, Florida. Omega even was courteous enough to post it for you in another thread. Don't simply kowtow to what the Dem. talking heads are saying. at this point, they'd say the moon was made of spam if it would get Gore elected. "voters, both black, hispanic, and white, turned away at the polling booths; and so on. Could this be part of the done deal?" It's far more likely, since the majority of those turned away were new immigrants, (haitians, etc.), that there's a law about you having to be REGISTERED to vote in Florida, like there is in Pennsylvania and virtualy everywhere else, and that they weren't. (See, busing in people who normaly wouldn't vote doesn't ALWAYS work for the Demoncrats.) ------------------ "Ed Gruberman, you fail to grasp Ty Kwan Leap. JeffR,The flameboard seems particularly hot these days, so I was just trying to bring in some humor ... that's all. No offense intended. I did read the series, believe it or not ... well, actually I only read "Ender's Game", but I read part of "Speaker of the Dead" ... it didn't really *grab* me the way the first book did, so I put it down and still haven't picked it up again (its about here somewhere). ------------------ Gore/Lieberman 2000 *** "You still don't understand, do you MacLeod? If you want to talk about dead people voting, just look at the 1960 presidential election. Besides enlisting the mafia's help to rig the vote, a large number of long dead democrats mysteriously voted for Kennedy and Johnson, perhaps enough to swing the election. Hmmmm.... I wonder how that happened? Do you think Daddy Kennedy the bootlegger called in a few favors? Or, did "Landslide Lyndon" just do what he normally did around election time? Despite this, at least Nixon had the class to bow out gracefully and not put the country through electoral Hell by demanding multiple recounts. For the record, I voted for neither Bush nor Gore. I just find Gore's behavior particularly childish and amusing. ------------------ Everything in life I ever needed to know I learned from The Simpsons.

Well, whatever the case, JFK was helped by mayor Daley, of Chicago, the father of the man who you see on TV working for Gore. They didn't have to call in favors, the dead have been voteing in West Virginia since the state formed.I think the dead voters outnumber the living voters in Mingo county. Constellation,Gore's behavior will become childish if he loses Florida and doesn't concede when the recount/absentee ballots are figured out by Nov. 17th. In the meantime, why does GWB want to stop a manual recount? What's the big friggin deal? ------------------ Gore/Lieberman 2000 *** "You still don't understand, do you MacLeod? Well, that was actually intended as a little joke, not that the situations are really analogous in the first place. As for Bush wanting to stop a hand recount, I'd stop it because it gives that much more chance that someone will do some, shall we say, creative counting. ------------------ Francesca: He was born on the tundra, that's where he belongs. "In the meantime, why does GWB want to stop a manual recount? What's the big friggin deal?"I suspect that GWB wants to stop a recount because: 1. He's afraid he might actually lose. Obviously. 2. More importantly from a constitutional standpoint, the election is over. Two counts have been made already, with GWB winning both. Therefore, the election is over. If some bumpkin isn't bright enough to punch out a little hole in a piece of paper in the correct place, then that's his/her fault, and I suspect GWB doesn't want the bean counters deciding the presidency when the voters and the electoral college constitutionally should. I was initially somewhat in favor of these recounts to ensure that the correct result ensues, but after two recounts its time to move on.

Actually, the election can't be over until all the absentee ballots have been counted, especially in a race *this* close ... therefor, its not over until November 17th, 10 days *after* the election (Florida election officials made this *very* clear to the media when they were talking about the recount the day after). And, honestly, if Bush wants recounts in Wis., and Iowa ... I'm all for that. Its important that the right guy goes into office ... this isn't a matter of winning by several *thousand* or *hundred thousand* votes, but by a few hundred, or even less. ------------------ Gore/Lieberman 2000 *** "You still don't understand, do you MacLeod? There is a time limit on recounts, to prohibit exactly what's happening here: A loser in a close race demanding recount after recount until he can get results he's happy with... like an unethical scientist "tweaking" the data, or a child counting 'eeny-meeny miney moe' until he gets the choice he REALLY wants.I talked to a man in our lodge who works on an election board and does voter recounts, and he said to me that recounts virtually NEVER change the outcome. ------------------ "Ed Gruberman, you fail to grasp Ty Kwan Leap. Yeah, todays the limit for recounts in FL as I understand it. But, we've still got to wait til the 17th to know who won ... Also, New Mexico looks on the verge of swinging back to Gore, Oregon is almost in Gore's camp, with 99% of the vote in, and there's a *huge* number of absentee ballots from Israel coming in ... (and, c'mon, those'll be for Lieberman...) I think my position on this has always been very reasonable. Florida itself has said we gotta wait til the 17th, so lets wait. Its not like there's a rush or anything. ------------------ "When they come, kill them.
