- There are pictures clearly showing the protester preparing to throw something that resembles a fire extinguisher or a small propane tank at a police vehicle.
- The Police vehicle has no windows. Plus, the tank is very heavy when full, and can even kill someone if you chuck it at his head.
- A Cop shoots the protestor. Most likely in self defense. How would you like it if your head connected with a Fire Extinguisher coming in at 50 Km/h. Very painful and potentially fatal too.
- In the ensuing frenzy and confusion, the driver accidently runs over same protestor. Not that it would have mattered anyway, chances are that the protester was already dead.
- The protester is among the so-called anarchists who try to make us think that they are rallying for a good cause, but they are only here to make a ruckus.
Already, some protestors are calling the dead idiot a martyr for the cause. Note that these are the anarchists who are saying this and the other legitimate demonstrators (the peaceful ones, who only want open dialogue) have already distanced themselves from the shooting.
Whether or not he asked for it, well, he was holding a potentially lethal object. I let you guys decide.
It is a good thing that all political leaders are condemning the shooting. Such violence should not be allowed under any circumstances. While Italy may hold a measure of regret in this incident, it should not be held accountable for the actions of some morons who don't know anything else other than to pick a fight.
This is "Left-Leaning" Tahna Los here, signing off.
Think of it as evolution in action.
Give me a break.
Note what Chretien said. He doesn't mind demonstrations and protest, as long as it was peaceful. But this was different.
But get violent, attack people, and you should EXPECT violence in return. Throw concrete at me, and I'll damn well open up on YOU.
Fine, the officer COULD have shot him in the leg to debilitate him and such. But keep in mind that the situation was never in the control of the police. It was mayhem, absolute mayhem, and for some police in the line of fire, the only thing one can think of is to get out ALIVE.
The officer should not be charged. To do so is to play into the hand of the Anarchists.
Globalisation is a fact of life and IMHO is beneficial to society. It's society's fault anyway - they want cheaper goods and services at a higher quality. Sourcing their suppliers abroad and taking advantage of cheaper labour is a way for companies to achieve this. The day people stop complaining about paying higher prices and demanding better quality at the same time will be the day that they have a right to complain about the harmful effects of globalisation.

The newspaper also have a picture of the standoff (before the violent started I guess).
These protest dudes are armed with helmet, gas mask, even police shield!!??
Peaceful demonstration with those equipments? Give me a break!
Ahh, the strange US mentality where it's quite okay to describe acts of violence, as long as no naughty words are said.
Switchblade was the best Mask toy, by far. I'm not sure what the use was turning from a helicopter to a jet, but it looked good. It pissed all over Thunderhawk, that's for sure.
If you're a man, pump some iron in the gym, then take the guy with your fist.
And...
Walter: "Nihilists! Fuck me. I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos."
Y'know, if you pull a knife on someone, you can scare them off w/o anyone else seeing the knife. If you hit them, they can have you arrested for battery.
Beside, if a guy (not drunk) piss you off that much, he probably deserve a punch in the face any way.
I don't know about you guys, but ppl here in Canada usually stick to "no weapon" rule. If you're in a brawl, and you don't pull no weapons, you'll get some bruses, and that's the worst it can get.
If you pull a knife, then anything go, who knows what could happen next?
Beside, drunk ppl do crazy shit, most of the time I just laugh it off and walk away. The worst I can get is push the drunk away and told him I've had enough, and I politely walk away. He doesn't know any better, his system is fill with alcohol, you don't even need to punch him, just push him and he'll be on the ground.
But pull a knife on a complete DRUNK??!! You know what that imply? It imply that you're a scared little puppy that's showing your teeth and trying to making supposeingly big noises to scare off people. Someone's lucky enough that the drunk got no friends to make an example out of him.
And one must think about why he get picked on, I've rarely get picked on my entire life. It's the way you act.
"Punks and thugs" would be a quote from his thickheadedness Ralph Klein, Premier of Alberta. Folksy right-wing prarie populist. Shit for brains but well-liked by his Albertan minions. Not known for tact.
Secondly, how exactly do you propose going to Kananaskis if the protesters won't be able to get there? Come into the posession of a transporter?
And lucky me, I'm living in what will inevitably become a staging area for the protestors as they cross the US border and regroup with buddies before they head on up to Canmore (which is basically as close as they'll be allowed to get, unless they try to hike in from Crowsnest or Elkford) to jump and scream and yell. I guess I'll set up a hemp clothing stand in town and make a few bucks or something
Remember, out of every 100,000 legitimate protestors, there are 5,000 who steal their show with their violence.
As for getting the leaders up there, how about using those Sea Kings?

Hey, it's all-natural!
