I ran across this a few days ago at a car forum, and figured this might be perfect for some flame-basting here. What began with a simple rant over customer service has expanded into a fight over First Amendment rights. Now this single thread has been viewed nearly 150,000 times, and 60+ webpages have now linked themselves to this thread, and back the creator of the thread. In Brief (A Newspaper Article on the story) First Post of the Thread Page 4 of the Thread, where the originator is told he is being sued Page 15 of the thread, where a running list of all sites backing this person are listed Just wonder what you guys think about this, since it really is a First Amendment thing.

Oooooh, juicy. True, free speech only goes so far: discrimination, for instance, isn't tolerated. But I don't see how a disgruntled customer publically voicing his opinion (I don't think anyone would be satisfied with that kind of "service") can possibly be considered libel. He's simply letting the world know how he feels - he has that right. A rather... comical situation, this. Informing others of your experiences with a dealer (or whatever) is now a crime? IMHO, this is VW looking for a quick buck. But what else is new?

Seems to me that his first post of the incident was a fairly factual account. He didn't overly exagerate anything. I'm sure you should have the rights under your constitution to speak out if you have been wronged in this way. I hope he wins so that the internet can be a free outlet for people to voice the opinion and clean up terrible service whereever it comes up. p.s. hope by posting it here you haven't drawn Flare into the nasty affair. lol

Eh? Law Suit dropped?By suing in the first place, the dealer made itself looks like a dumbass. By dropping the suit, therefore proving everyone else is right, just upgrade that "dumbass" to the "retard" I think that person should "kick it up a notch" and stick it to the dealer by suing them for emotional damage and get some cash out of them.

Well, the person being sued is a college student, and the only way he was paying for his lawyer here was with people sending him money through the message board. He now says he's giving the excess money to charity.
