How is pointing a finger and going "brzaap" at somebody who's pointing a finger at you and going "bang" (or the reverse) a "threat" that is "intended to cause distress?"
I have an old "Peanuts" book in which the kids are playing this same game. Would these idiots have suspended Charlie, Linus, and Lucy?

Zero tolerance can be good, but this is zero-tolerance-squared. This ain't good.
Posted by Grokca (Member # 722) on :
Zero Tolerance = Zero Intelligence Every situation must be taken and examined by someone with some kind on intellect. This is obviously a case of principal having no intelligence. I wonder what the actual school rule about this reads."No pointing fingers"
Posted by Wraith (Member # 779) on :
Actually i wouldn't be surprised if there was a 'no pointing fingers' rule at any school. My school has a rule stating that no students are allowed within 6 inches of each other, so I wouldn't say it's entirely out of the realm of possibility.
Posted by UM . (Member # 239) on :
Your school must have some fancy new hallways or something, because I can't remember ever NOT being at least six inches away from some deodorant-less greaseball kid.

Wow. Talk about a crackheaded principal.
Now kids can't have fun. I remember when I was young me and my friend Scotty would do the nerve pinch on each other(but not hard) and act like we were firing phasers at klingons and Romulans. What is with these 'zero tolerance' ploices anyway? I can understand about guns and drugs and serious stuff like that. My mom had a teacher who spanked kis for discipline with a paddle. My old teacher, Mr Siemering couldn't becasue we got those polices. Our class that we switched teacher with was a bunch of freaks, and he commands respect and tolerance and he used to have to yell and other teachers would complain. There justification will be that they will be safe. But without discipline more and more kids have gotten into drugs and the sex rate is soaring. Society will come to ruind especially with whats on like MTV or like that. Glad I'm in the Middle of Nowhere.

Well, good. It wouldn't do to have two unconcious children lying in the middle of a field, now, would it?
Also, your point about degenerative society was excellent. Please regale us with more of that same biting social observationalism.

While we're at it, we'd better edit out the last 30 seconds of Cowboy Bebop, considering how Spike used his hand like a gun and all. But you know, leave the real gun play alone.

(WARNING: Swearing and Profanity ahead. Sorry if I offend anyone)
Think about it. If you look on the TV Guide channel listings you see about half of the shows on the MTV not only 89% of the words spoken on the shows but also the names of the shows are... cuss words. The 5 I can say off my head are;
Jackass You Bitch!! Fuckers On the Beach Damndest Thing Duh, Bastard
See? My kids can't even say the names of shows on Tv without cussing. I figure they think it is funny. I saw a ad for a NBC show and it featured a woman screaming 'You JACKASS' at her ex and worse my kids were in the room. The next day she said 'Asshole' instead of 'Jackass'. Have you watched some of shows like 'Friends' or 'That 70's/80's Show'? I watch 'King Of the Hill' on FOX and even though it has some profanity once in a while it is a good show. Friends came on right after and the first word spoken was 'Fuck'. Please point out why this is funny. That is why I have changed my way of life. I am the kind of person who if he tries to work I work and if I try to relax I work. Proud to be a farmer. I will do hard labor for nothing. If that is how younguns are like today, what will it be like when they have kids??? Porn is everywhere. A fat lot of help it does if kids can get that kind of stuff. They say not to enter if your 18 or younger but if porn is on the front page it is real effective. I get an average of 23 emails per day for porn or penis enlargement. They say 'Remove for list' and when I click on it it takes me to the front page and over 45 at the most pop-ups appear and won't go away. I have to shut down my computer to do that. I have a idea that I will be shooting my Tv soon. I can still hear the Cincinatti Reds play on the radio and the weather. Makes me sick.

They have a really different 'Friends' in your FarmLand than the Friends that most of us watch.

Anyone born after the 1980's will tell you that some of the rules in place (no gum, no hats, no coats, no bookbags) are basically rules set in place because of the the old gentleman rules (women first, be polite etc). It never hurts to be polite or be gentlemanly like, but it really does not apply to today's generation.
For instance, when is the last time you heard you grand parents curse like today? Or how about your parents? our parents might curse but not like today. Now it's generally accepted that some curse words can be used in moderation. But then you got those you say 'bitch' every other word. You got music that revolves around cursing.

I remember a zero-tolerance policy was applied when a 6th grader was suspended for bringing a metal butter knife to school in a paper bag with two pieces of bread and a jar of peanut butter around here about 5 years ago [villainous intent]. Post-Columbine he would have been expelled probably. (of course, post 9/11, Whole Foods Market has confiscated all of the bagger and cashier's razor-boxcutters, except for selected individuals is stocking departments and locked at the desk. No last-minute hijackings on our agenda, thanks to their decision.)
A great victory for the tarnishing of outdated rules was in my middle school, back when I lived in Florida. We werent allowed to wear shorts, in 105 degree weather (Fahrenheit, dude), until one day we organized and had about 90% cooperation in EVERYONE wearing shorts to school. The reason given for the no-shorts rule, was that it was a rule of propriety in school in every other state of the US. Except it just happened to be hot a fucking hell in FL, and they were too stupid to get their heads out of their asses till we did it for them (they couldnt suspend all of us)

OK; I reckon I qualify as a member of 'today's generation' (born in '86) so here's my input. Basically I think it's right that kids get at least some exposure to things like swearing, violence etc. but ONLY if it is drilled into them that this stuff is bad and you shouldn't act like that in a civilised society. That is what I think is missing; most people my age have very little in the way of morals; they believe it is socially acceptable to swear, be violent etc. Sex also; when I was 13 there was a girl in my form who was basically a whore. She would (in school) accept money for performing sexual acts.
Now I would be the first to say that I am unusual (although it is basically 'uncool' to have an IQ of above 70 where I am) but I just feel that society is suffering due to this and also the increased bureaucratisation(?) of pretty much everything. The huge number of ridiculous rules and 'mission statements' that our school has had to introduce due to government intervention (good example- our school recently had to prepare a statement on its 'racism policy' and what measures were in place to 'promote multiculturality'- understand my school has about 10 students from other ethnicities and there are no race problems at all that I've noticed) and to protect itself from being sued.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Preach it, Wraith.
Yeah, I remember when I was in the sixth grade there was a girl who was a whore. Charged 10 bucks for sex. I couldn't even have a banana sandwich (my favorite)! You know how if you cut a banana it gets brown, I brought a butterknife... no a plastic knife to school and I got suspened for 3 mutha fuking days!!! Agreed on the matter of controlled profanity. Crackheads in the government. Democrats, that is. Pass these damn laws...

Criminal Intent. They thought I was going to stab my friend Scotty (earlier post) with it. This is when I was in high school, not long ago. (I'm 31) . Yeah, the Chickpea-Conover school system is freaky. No wonder. WE had a creek beside the school. The principal took a drink from it and was never the same. Then the zero tolerance laws took effect. My god, people hunt behind the school. (Rabbit, the delicacy along with Fried chicken, bacon, sausage, and chitlins) It's beyond me.

The fact that all this is no longer fields?
Posted by Matrix (Member # 376) on :
Zero tolerance is the response to the radical moral change that happened in the past ten years. Ten years, sure we had a few bad incidents, but nothing to the point of where we are now.
It's TV, and I'll let you decide on how it did it that.

"Who wants to marry a multi-millionaire?"
Oh, and it's doubtful that if this society is actually morally different than society previously, blanket statements about a singular cause are the defining reason for any decline at all. It's certainly more than just "TV", "Prison Rape" or "Jellybeans." That is all "if" there is actually a decline in morality or behavioural at all, which may or may not be the case. It could all just be an influx of Political Correctness that spurned the Zero Tolerance movement, which has simply been in place now and noticed more infractions of the rules than before.
People still got pregnant at 15 in 1855. Probably with their own brother or uncle, so I don't think we should necessarily be dissapointed with current trends.
