Department of Homeland Security sounds like a good start to disarming America and increasing Government control of everything......

Yah...I'll admit that this scares me a little. The problem is that when you set up an entire governmental department to find terrorism...they're most likely going to find it...wherever they want to.
I'm not saying it won't have value. I'm saying I don't trust people that much. I don't trust that the Department won't decide that...I don't know...Ice Cream Truck Drivers are all terrorists.
Once they get the power to take whatever steps they like, I think we'll see that it will be very hard to put limits on what they do. It seems to me that the entire department could very quickly be protected by the fact that everything they do is in the name of national security...which sort of throws alot of the rules out the window.
Just my two cents...

At the risk of breaking ranks, I'm going to suggest that this new department is not likely to be any more of a threat to liberty than other departments already in existence. I do wish someone in the Bush administration had some sense of tact and subtlety when it came to naming things, though.

Now there shouldn't be departmental fighting, which may be keeping us safe from them, maybe a little inter-departmental in-fighting.....

Of course, many of you here have probably endured some of that agency's greater blunders... but don't know it.

No, but you can add it to the list of Things That Are Occasionally Done Fairly Well, And Occasionally Are Spectacularly Fouled Up.
Really, somebody should strangle the idiot that came up with "mainstreaming."
It would also probably help if more of the people making educational policy for this country were actual educators, rather than sociologists, psychologists, lawyers, and other folks who haven't been in a classroom since they graduated.
But that's another argument.
To get back on topic...
