So instead of enforcing existing law, they pass absurdly restricting laws that by NATURE can not be enforced. Why does this sound familiar?

Gun control laws can be enforced, wonder boy.
Incidentally, this new litigation outlaws the Olympics as well. I smell an amendment comin' up.

Really clever kids could probably get out of most of school, with such a law in place.

Can, but aren't.
If they were, there wouldn't be three million illegal guns in the UK.
Tell me, do they enforce the bans on tasers, nunchuks, pepper spray, spiked wristbands (guess they ain't punk rawk), shuriken, and brass knuckles in Canada?

I meant it sounded familiar in the general similarities, and in the level of stupidity involved. They're obviously not EXACTLY the same.

THere's some debate as to the "reality" of these stories over at snopes.com. Apparently, some accounts say that this "law" has already been withdrawn due to public outcry.

Only two responses until gun control. A record! Uh, for threads about video games. Which are in the wrong forum.

You counted them?
Besides, how does that prove that the laws aren't successful in reducing the number of guns. I'm going to hazard a guess that murder is pretty illegal in the US, and yet, guess what, it still seems to happen. Crazy.

Well, spitting on the sidewalk is illegal in most states, but I can't recall the last time somebody got a ticket for it.
Not that this relates to the above conversation. I just like pointing that out.

Hm. They havent caught too many people for sodomy lately, either.
or downloading copyrighted music and movies.
or, even more damaging to the fabric of society, downloading copyrighted movies depicting sodomy! or sodomizing people while listening to pirated music!

Or sodomizing people while they spit on the sidewalk while playing with their new gun.
Except that public indecency would come into play.

hm unless they were in a building sodomizing, and spitting out the window onto the sidewalk.. WHILE THEIR COMPUTER'S TASK SCHEDULER IS PIRATING COPYRIGHTED MATERIALS.
BTW, i saw a 'Picket Fences' where they found a guy innocent of playing with his new gun and killing a cop. A drug dealer was sitting in his house on his couch with a licensed gun in his hand, and a police S.W.A.T. team with a warrant burst in, guns drawn. The officer saw the man was armed, and prepared to shoot and the dealer shot first. He was in his own home with his own gun, and his security system recorded it all and the cops didnt find what they were looking for. It was completely self-defense because the police officer would have necessarily shot him because he was armed, and didn't give him a chance to surrender, in his own home.
So it might not be illegal to play with your new gun.
Then the Borg assimilated them all. Except for the Judge, Boothby. He boxed with Chakotay and Tom Skerrit before the Poltergeist reached out of the mirror and grabbed Carol-Ann.
Well i think thats how it happened.

Vain attempt to get back on topic with a humorous link.

No, I took the Home Office's word for it. Maybe that was a mistake.
The ban was successful in reducing the number of guns. But of course, if numbers were what mattered, then Norway would have the same crime rates as the US.
What the ban was most successful at was reducing the number of legally owned guns. To zilch. Highly effective.
But since the idea was to reduce the number of guns used in CRIME, and knowing that the vast majority of guns used in crime are owned illegally, and knowing that the number of guns owned illegally gas increased, it would seem that the law, while VERY effective at reducing guns that were not likely to be used in crime, actually increased the probability that guns would be used in crime.

Yes, but unlike The Case of the British Guns (sounds like an Arthur Conan Doyle mystery title), it cannot be reasonably suggested that the laws against murder actually caused the murder rate to go up.

The ruling was overturned today ... saying that it was unconstitutional.

Guns were banned, and the number of gun related crimes went up. But they were increasing anyway, so how are you proving that banning guns didn't stop a more drastic increase?
