quote:The Commonwealth war graves commission said today that cemetery caretakers and visitors were left "shocked, upset and disgusted" after seeing a British war memorial in France covered with anti-war graffiti. The memorial at Etaples, near Boulogne on the Channel coast, was daubed in red paint with slogans including "Rosbeefs [British] go home", "Saddam will win and he will make you bleed" and "Dig up your rubbish, it is contaminating our soil".
Some 11,000 British servicemen and women are buried at the cemetery, most of whom died defending France in the first world war.

Much as slamming the French has long been a hobby of Canadians (the American taste for such is by comparison fairly recent...) - don't blame all French for the actions of a few nutbars.
I certainly wouldn't want everyone of German decent slammed because of the actions of a few skinhead-Nazi's.

Stop that!
There's no place for reason in this debate. Everytime some wacko does something it must be posted. People must be blamed.
Now, where did I put that article on the Oregon legislature....

It is good to see that even the Socialists over there are condemning the acts of the cretins who did this.
But it does show that there are equal wackos on both sides: Those here who want to bring home the soldiers buried there, and those in France who agree with them.

I think there is a formula for that, something like;
The number of Wackos on a given side, is directly proportional to the total number of participants.

quote:BROOKSVILLE, Florida (AP) -- A hacker broke into a congresswoman's e-mail account Wednesday and used it to send a message condemning President Bush and the war in Iraq, her office said.
quote:She said the message called Bush a terrorist and said he, Vice President Dick Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld deserved the death penalty.
She added that the message used bad grammar.
Of course, she IS the person who actually introduced the bill to exhume and return US GI's in Europe, but still...
quote:In apparent response to the bill Brown-Waite filed last month, her Florida office recently received a package of rotting chicken bones from Germany. That prank came after a German magazine encouraged its readers to send bones to Brown-Waite with the message: "The boys are coming home."

I suspect they probably don't actually agree w/ it. I would guess they were probably just making the kind of response they thought the original statement deserved.

Just a minor point- Etaple is a Commonwealth grave site. Soldiers from all over the Empire, including Canada and Australia are buried there.
And Chirac has had to write a grovelling apology to the Queen.

Bush a terrorist? The boy can't even pronounce the word.

He was saying "terrorist?" I wondered! It sounded sorta like 'terriers,' I was wondering what he had against dogs. . . 8)
