quote:BREAKING NEWS NBC, MSNBC AND NEWS SERVICES April 10 Iraqi military and political leaders asked to surrender Thursday in the northern city of Mosul, U.S. military sources told NBC News. Mosul is essentially in our hands, one official said. The governor of Mosul and the Iraqi Army Fifth Corps Commander are now working out surrender terms with U.S. Special Forces.
quote:Kirkuk residents also targeted a bronze statue of Saddam Hussein in the center of the city, pulling it down in an echo of Wednesdays destruction by Iraqis and U.S. Marines of a large Saddam statue in central Baghdad. A chain was wrapped around the statue, and tied to an old fire engine, which backed up and brought down the effigy, to the delight of about 100 people gathered around. Some in the crowd jumped on the fallen statue, firing machine guns in celebration and hitting Saddams likeness with their shoes a serious insult in the Arab world. The bodies of two dead Iraqi soldiers lay near the statues base, where the letters USA were spraypainted. The fall of Kirkuk closes off to Iraqi forces the important corridor between Tikrit, President Saddam Husseins hometown, which is still held by Iraqi forces, and Mosul in the north.
quote:On the road into Dibis, running along the western edge of the Kirkuk oilfields, hundreds of Iraqi soldiers in uniform walked down the road without weapons, with some waving at the the peshmergas and shouting, Hurray America and Britain! In the town, U.S. and Kurdish forces entered without a fight and residents attacked a tile mural of Saddam, throwing mud, smashing it and again hitting it with their shoes.
quote:What Iraqi forces were still in the area appeared largely withered. One Iraqi soldier who surrendered after U.S. bombing raids near Mosul said morale was at rock bottom. I saw many officers ripping off their epaulettes and throwing down their arms, Haidar Hatan Khthair said in the village of Pir Daud, where he was held by Kurdish guerrillas and enjoyed a bit of bread and water. They have no spirit to fight.
quote:CHEERS IN THE NORTH Iraqi Kurds had already flooded the streets of towns in northern Iraq on Wednesday, rejoicing in the downfall of Saddam, who had gassed them and executed them by the thousands. Hes gone! Hes gone! chanted a group of boys dancing in stalled traffic in the Kurdish administrative capital of Irbil on Wednesday. As news spread that U.S. troops had overtaken the Iraqi capital Baghdad, Kurds left their homes and waded onto streets, waving streamers and the yellow starburst flag of their autonomous region. In Irbil, joy came in many guises. Boys waved hand-drawn American flags. Militiamen held their weapons. People burned photos of Saddam. One car windshield carried a message written in soap: Bye Bye, Saddam. A cartoon showed Saddam falling into a garbage bin. About a dozen boys tried without success to sing The Star-Spangled Banner. There is joy today, but lets not forget weve all shed tears because of Saddam, said actor Uman Chowshin.

With the amount of jerking off you've been doing over this war, I pity the fool who does your laundry. . .

One would hope that he does his own laundry by now.

You know, I'm pretty sure that most of us here know how to find and read news websites...
Or is this your way of trying to say "I-told-you-so"?

Well, that's okay. It was an Australian that mistook that snigger. If he had been from the US, you would have been alright. He would have just thought you were talking about a black person.

They are one letter removed! That is the same word! Or at least, close enough to call in an air strike, or something.

You know, I heard about Bush's announcement that they think Syria has chemical weapons, it sounds almost like he's preparing to take a few others out on the way home, now that he's got the army up and running.
I just don't think Syria is such a good next target, being that it's commanded by the ruthless leader Bashar Al-Asad. I mean, as mighty as the US army is, I don't think the US army could take on the battle-hardened Sardaukar Commandos. Those guys don't take prisoners (well, sometimes they do, but only so as to do naughty things to them).
What we need is "desert p0w4r"!!!

If Bush decides to attack Syria, it will also be to "eliminate Hamas and any terrorist organization that threatens Israel." And, if there's any attack, it will most likely come from cruise missiles and not ground troops.
We already fought a "pseudo war" with Syria in 1984. They shot down two of our jets, killing one pilot, and the other was captured and released with the help of Jesse Jackson.

Question is, will they offer the same resistance as the Saddam Feday(k)in?
Posted by First of Two (Member # 16) on :
The war with Syria will be fought first on the economic battlefield. With the lifting of sanctions on Iraq (which the Syrians were violating to the tune of a lot of money), Syria will be in economic trouble. If the US and UK impose sanctions on Syria (and especially if they can get others to follow suit), it will get worse for them.
Be prepared to see more sattelite and air recon pictures taken near the border of Syria released soon.

And then, of course, Syria could start to threaten Israel. They could attempt to re-take the Golan Heights, for example, and probably get their butt kicked by the IDF.
