... I'm a cat person.

And the people in this article really PISSED ME OFF.

quote:
To some, Weinhart was known as Tarzan - a man with a special feel for big cats. An employee said Weinhart could walk into a pen of leopards, where the cats would fight with each other to rub up against him.

But others had a different view of Weinhart. Natalie Paulson, the director of animal welfare at a sanctuary in Los Angeles County, told the Times she called the USDA to complain following a visit to Weinhart's Tiger Rescue operation last summer.

"It was horrendous," Paulson told the newspaper. "All the animals were malnourished no water, no shelter from the elements or shade; there was an African lion fully grown that was in a box with no water or shelter. ... Everything was so dirty. Some of the tigers were infested with fleas."

You know, I think this is the same guy who brought a tiger cub to my high school years ago to promote his Tiger Rescue operation.

I'm a cat person too. I certainly feel horrible when I hear about any mistreatment of animals, but I've got a special spot in my heart for cats. And mistreatment of cats is one of the few things that can really, totally, completely piss me off.

I mean REALLY... what can posess someone to ignore or mistreat such cute animals?

Cruelty to animals enrages me in a way that nothing else does... NOTHING. It brings out the deepest primal instinct I have... the urge to kill.

(I do suppose that makes me a hypocrite, though, for not being a devout vegetarian)

That's awful. We have three cats; the third we got because she'd been abandoned by her mother when only about two weeks old, and was near death - heard about this from our vets and decided we'd adopt her if she pulled through (a sibling was also found, but didn't make it). She did, she's now six months old, coal-black but for a white splash on her chest. She's totally adorable (if extremely naughty) and keeps our other two on their toes. Her name is Molly. OK, she wasn't mistreated in the way described in ther article, but I guess I'm just trying to articulate how I feel about cats.

People who harm cats should be given the death penelty. No excuses.

We have two cats. Psycho and Nuts. Hand another one named Snowball but SOMEONE ran it over during a snow-storm... [Roll Eyes]

How, er, ironic.

To be fair, the wife was the one who let him outside during the storm... Dang cat hid under my car. Went to pull out to go to "work" and... RRRRO(crunch)OOOWWWWW!!

So, yeah... we both should be shot for that one. [Frown]

I heard about this crap too. Drop the geezer in Tsavo at midnight, I say. And smear him with monkey blood!

What boggles me is why we have these large quantities of big cats being bred in the west and just...kept.
So egotistic, not to release them into countries where they are supposed to be and can make a difference.

On a related note, I've started practising acupressure on Theo. On the, what is it called in english, the little pads on their paws? The swedish translation would be tread-cushions.

Anyway, it seems to work (he lets off that weird drilling-sound) but he only lets me do the front as of yet, he seems to be ticklish on the hind paws.

Egh, now would be a bad time for diabetics to visit Flare.

[ Edit: It seems they're called "paw pads". I wasn't that far off then, was I? Live and learn. :.) :.) ]

Y'know, there are people out there who do his sort of thing to their own children. I mean, I'm not saying the guy shouldn't have his nuts ripped off by the selfsame tigers he fucked over, but, really, some perspective might be warranted...

No, I was replying to Tahna. I wasn't sure why he was calling Omega a liar.

CATS RULE!!!!!

I have two, mother and daughter. One of whom is mentally retarded (although very cute).

Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :

You can have a mentally retarded cat? How can you tell?

Posted by Nim (Member # 205) on :

They're all mentally retarded in a way, none of them understands simple logic
like when you put the harness on them and walk them in a leash and they go under a table,
then around four chair legs, they WILL GET STUCK! :-)

In any other case, cats are the most astute pets I've met.
Do one twist with the can opener and they're between your feet, trying to push you over.
But take out the little cat travel box from the closet before a trip and you'll have to call the US Marshals for a search party.
And I live in a 40m flat, you'd think it would be easy...

Also, he can sense when I'm sad, which has been a lot since my gf and I broke up in January.

She's even stupider than the other one. [Big Grin] . Probably cos her mother keeps headbutting her.

Same thing that causes people to mistreat people, the feeling of power over the animal that they can abuse or treat decently at their own personal whim. Or, like the parents of drug dealers in the larger cities, they have nice clothes and beamer and caddies while the kids are still wearing their first ever diaper at age eight, they just don't care about anything but themselves, and will get what they can hurting whomever.

Well, that and the fact that most people only have a conscience as regards to people they know and can see. If you gave people a choice between letting a friend die, or a hundred nameless faceless people hafway across the globe die...they're first instinct would probably be the people the don't know.
Non-humans and nonsentients (i.e. cats) would probably rate even lower.

Its not being evil, its just plain human nature. People want to be nice to themselves, failing that to people they know, or can see....animals...plants....bacteria rate much lower.

PS: "I mean REALLY... what can posess someone to ignore or mistreat such cute animals?" So I presume that its ok to ignore or mistreat animals that aren't cute? [Wink]

Those crazy-ass fish with the flashlights in the sea? Who'd care if they died?

Brian Fellow: Did you see that haircut rabbit? With the short haircut?

Doc Ellis: Yeah I did.

Brian Fellow: That was CRAZY!

I'm a cat person, too. Care to swap recipes?

It beats me how somebody could consider Panthera tigris "cute", though. Even at the kitten stage, when they can only kill small dogs with one swipe.

My dog can open doors. Even ones with round doorknobs. [Smile]

Sketchy image of Tom's dog.

I desperately want Peter Mansbridge as a pet, but the furry guy on the left is fine for the time being.

Posted by Ultra Magnus (Member # 239) on :

Peter Mansbridge would not be good for playing wih, I fear. I have heard he is incontinent. Plus, the minute you hit him with a newspaper, he'd lead with that story on The National.

BECAUSE WE HAVE NO OTHER NEWS, SEE?!

Why does he keep a dog in a cat's cage?
And locked? Indoors?

I like cats also, although not deep fried, roasted is better....

Dogs are better bar-b-qued, with a lemon twist on the side.

You perfectly described the exact feeling I have now...

This is absolutely discusting.

If'n I made the rules, I'd stick those three into a little cage and see how they like being neglected and abused.

There's been some problems with animal abuse in the poor area of my town as well. Young children (I'm talking like 5-10 here) find small animals (Puppy's or Kittens) and light them on fire, pull on thee legs till the come off, or beat them to death. These discusting little sub-humans have nothing better to do then get thier jollies by torture and killing defenseless animals.

I don't care what other people think of me when I say that if I caught a young person doing that to an animal, I'd show them what being hit with a hockey stick feels like. I sound like a crazy animal lover I know, but that's how angry stories like these make me. [Mad] (no amount of angry faces will ever accurately portray the murderous rage that I feel)

No worse than the 'joke'
I like kids, but I can't eat a whole one....

Also, it depends on your humor, had someone else said it I would have benn laughing quite heartily....
