Well. Go Dodd.
Posted by Da_bang80 (Member # 528) on :
He looks like that creepy congressman from that Striptease movie.
Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :
It's not the best picture of him, to be sure. This one is better.
Posted by Da_bang80 (Member # 528) on :
I swear to god, he looks like Burt Reynolds in Striptease.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :
You know why not? Cause saying "President Dodd" just sounds weird.
"The State of the Union is ready for your approval President Dodd"
"Shall I enter the final launch codes, President Dodd?"
Of course, it can't really sound funnier than Bush... so who knows.
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
But just think of the "Kneel before Dodd" jokes. Plus, the obvious ryhme with God 9sure to make newspaper copy witers happy).
Maybe the comb-over flips up to service his positronic net.
Posted by Cartman (Member # 256) on :
In Dodd we trust, yes.
Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :
Thank Dodd. Oh my Dodd. An act of Dodd.
Can I copyright headlines?
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
Only if you're a major republican campaign contributor....then you can copyright anything. Even the human genome.
Posted by WizArtist II (Member # 1425) on :
His theme song could be "Dodd Dodd Dodd"
Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :
Yes, but will anyone believe in Dodd? Dodd may well move in mysterious ways. And he may face other challengers for the nomination, who have more money than Dodd.
Posted by FawnDoo (Member # 1421) on :
It might be a bit nasty if he turns out to be the Cylon's one true Dodd.
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
Or if his wife's name is Molly (surely the most obscure reference EVAR!).
Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :
It might take people days & nights to figure that one out, Jason.
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
What ever happened to her? I thought she was a hottie (for a much older chick- at the time). Kinda a real life "Single Female Lawyer" series- my Ma and Seester used to watch it weekly (and as there was but one TV set in my house...).
Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :
Redhaired women are hot (plus, I've never dated anyone with red hair so there's that, I suppose).
I think I liked her looks back when Dana Delaney ws the hottest thing on TV (China Beach and then some shitty movie with Dan Akroyd which featured her nekkid).
Posted by Mars Needs Women (Member # 1505) on :
Yeah she sure is purdy!
Oh and speaking of presidential candidates, I think Clinton has stated that she will be running or so says my newspaper.
Posted by B.J. (Member # 858) on :
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
(Seriously, who didn't see *that* one coming?)
Posted by Da_bang80 (Member # 528) on :
Yeah, been a little slow here lately.
I read in the paper today that Clinton is going to run. I guess it'll be a historic election with the first woman presidential candidate and the first black presidential candidate. Although I'm not too sure on the last one, I don't follow American politics too closely, so I don't know if this is a first or not.
Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :
Jesse Jackson, 1988 comes to mind.
Posted by Da_bang80 (Member # 528) on :
Rev. Jesse Jackson?
Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :
None other.
Posted by Da_bang80 (Member # 528) on :
Really. I didn't know he tried to run for president. Well, there's my learning quota for the day.
Still, the first female American President a Clinton. I bet those male interns are starting to get worried...
Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :
"Umm, Madam President, exactly where are you planning to stick that cigar?"
Posted by Da_bang80 (Member # 528) on :
Lol, umm, if the president is a woman, what will they call her husband? Bill Clintons sexual deviances aside, I doubt he'd want to be known as the First Lady.
Posted by Krenim (Member # 22) on :
First Gentleman.

Yes, it should make for some interesting T.V.
Personally I'm hoping for Obama, I think the U.S. could use a young-ish (How old is he anyways?) man of non-caucasian decent in Office.

"...the first woman presidential candidate and the first black presidential candidate."
"Jesse Jackson, 1988 comes to mind."
Not to mention, in 2004, Al Sharpton, who is black, and Carol Mosley-Braun, who is both black and a woman.
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
Jesse Jackson being black is just an aside- oppournitistic scumbag fuckwads no one racial boundry. Mmmm...I wonder whatevr happened to Jesse's old pal Luis Farakan? After 9/11 no one wanted to hear an Islamic militant screaming about bringing down the government, I guess.
Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :
You say that as if it were a change from before.
Posted by OnToMars (Member # 621) on :
Not gonna happen....and it's too bad: I'd probbaly vote for him. Particularly with Obama as his V.P.
Posted by Nim (Member # 205) on :
To think that it would be the first ever presidential candidate that is seriously well-known and liked by the young generation. It would be a first, a sort of "cool" president.
Posted by B.J. (Member # 858) on :
No, Clinton did that when he started appearing on MTV during his initial campaign. (I'm going on popular opinion here, not my own - I didn't like him, and that was the first election I was able to vote in.) Besides, this is only within recent history. I have no idea how well-liked, for example, Kennedy was by the young crowd.

As our Omega was a republican, which one would have the goatee?
Posted by Omega (Member # 91) on :
I'm still a conservative, in some ways, particularly fiscally. I just don't have a party any more. I like Gore on a personal level, and he and I agree on many things of late. Perhaps not everything, but the odds of me finding a candidate I agree with 100% are about the same as the odds of me running for president. Perhaps slightly less.
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
Yeah...it's high time we had more political parties now- something new and in between the Republican or Democrat agendas of status quo would be a big hit.
Posted by Jay the Obscure (Member # 19) on :
weshould just elect timon sol system as president
Posted by OnToMars (Member # 621) on :
Explain to me how the Democratic party's agenda is "status quo."
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
Well, aside from leaning farther to the Right and selling out their core principles on civil liberties while courting religous special intrest groups, their goal is the same as the Republicans: stay in power while fucking over the other party. An elected republican or democrat of 20 years ago fits nicely with those of today because of this with no outcry for systematic change- the two party system is preserved by both parties regardless of who is in power because ultimately they know their time will come around again.
This is also why so many voters are disgusted to the point of apathy or calim "independant" status rather than party affiliation.
Both parties cater to polls and campaign contributors far more than any ideals- the main political "agenda" is to further a political career.
Just watch Hillary talk about "preserving the American way of life" while addressing religous groups opposed to immigration. Or watch the scores of once-loyal Bush supporters scream about how "the administration is on the wrong path"...just so long as the polls support that POV, anyway. Watch everyone dance around what to do about Iraq (and the scariest thing would be for there to really be no plan at all).
Hmmmm....maybe I'm just embittered that McCain (whom I generally respect, as the best the republicans have to offer) announced this past weekend, he'd try to overturn Roe v. Wade...while speaking to a group of influential conservative christians, a huge political political jump up for him and a huge disapointment for me. Even Bush was a bit less extreme in his views while on the campaign trail- and the election is still waaaaays away.
Maybe that Obama guy can still win..I've not heard anything too crazy from him yet.
Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :
If you still respect John McCain, you haven't been paying attention the past couple years.
Posted by Jay the Obscure (Member # 19) on :
thtat's ascary thought
Posted by bX (Member # 419) on :
Are we talking about the real John McCain or this pod-person John McCain who's been tromping around being a jerk in the former senator's skin?
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
A good question: first he's a real, honest to god american hero that is opposed to Bushco's torture policies, then he goes in for some closed-door meetings with Bush's inner circle and suddenly we get... this guy. Now he's someone that suddenly supports Bush's treatment of prisoners and is catering to the religous right.
So, he's a pod or they have his family hostage or he just sold the fuck out.
