21: Thomas Jefferson, even though a good bit of it was developed by comittee.

22: No one. Hale's actual last words were closer to "It is the duty of every good officer to obey the orders of his C-in-C."

23: Well, it was used in the Gettysburg address by Lincoln, and I can't think of any earlier use. That'd have to be my answer.

24: The second president of the US under the constitution was John Adams.

25: Ooh, good one. Teddy Roosevelt, maybe?

26: The president at the time. Let's see. WWI ended in the late teens. Woodrow Wilson?

27: That'd be FDR, IINM.

28: The Battle of the Bulge was the final German counter-attack during the invasion of Europe in WW2. They caused a huge bulge in the allied lines, but never broke through.

29: Obviously not A or B. I feel like it's Douglass, so that's who I'm picking.

30: Oh, man. Just looked back at my answers (didn't see anyone else's). Can't believe I put LBJ. Guess I just wasn't thinking. I'd say Eisenhower.

RE: Question 21...bear in mind that Jefferson was in France from 1884 to 1889. The Constitution was written in 1787.

Hard to father anything, er disregard Sally Hemmings (that is if anyone here has actually heard of her), from thousands of miles away when correspondence took weeks.

Actually, in retrospect, both myself & the writer of said question are correct. While we DID build the Canal proper, we also DID purchase said land & all adjoining rights-of-way for $10 million in 1903....I think that's be like, what, $172 trillion now? For those that think that doesn't sound like a lot, here's the actual numeric value: $172,000,000,000,000

Count the zeros. Of course, I think I gave it something like 867% inflation of something like that. I'm no Ben Stein.

Yes, well...I almost went the same route as Omega on the Nathan Hale one, but changed my mind. Outside of people from Connecticut & period historians, it seems that no one knows the truth.

Well, regarding Nathan Hale, I went with the answer given on the U. Conn. quiz for all questions...even ones I had problems with so :P

The quiz can be found here. If you want to go after the veracity of any answers email them.

I may be a bit rusty yet as can be seen on the Julius Caesar question in the other thread, but I've listened to the "this question doesn't make sence" complaints from freshmen before. It can be hard to defend questions from other sources....like in the middle of the test (I used to proctor exams for history profs) one of the smarter students comes up and askes "does he mean this or this?" The answer's B...now go sit down.

I used to tell my friends that I would rather take a test than make one up. It's hard to come up with 100 fair, well worded, and overall good multiple choice questions that everyone in a 150 student class can understand and mark C on. Well, we hope the mark C for the correct answer rather than guessing.

And don't get me started on map questions!
