Okay, here's a puzzle, one which I personally found difficult. Try and figure out what the next line of this series is. If people can't get the next line within a reasonable length of time, I'll post it again, with the next line, to make it easier to figure out.
1 11 21
PS If you've seen this problem before, let people try to figure it out first.
Okay, I won't online again until tomorrow, so I'll give you more to go on.

Hmm. I'll have a go, but I'm not at all sure if this is the right line of thought

No, that's not it, Red Admiral. Here's the next line.

Nope, I'm afraid not. BTW, I just realised what angle Red Admiral was taking. I'll just add that you can take any single line at face value and get the next by applying a rule.
Well, the next line's gonna be six digits, and have a four in it...

Nope, but don't be afraid to guess, lads, the worst that's going to happen is that you're going to be wrong. Here's the thing again, with the next line.
1 11 21 1211 1231 131221 132231
The symmetry in the last line doesn't have any particular significance.
I don't know if anyone is still trying this but here's the next line anyway:
1 11 21 1211 1231 131221 132231 232221
I suppose I'd better give a clue, although this will probably give it away completely: Read each line out loud.

Yep, well done Frank! I'll say no more, in case anyone else still wants to figure it out for themselves.

In case we want to puzzle the rest a little more, I'll go on from FrankG's last number.
14131231
Bad thing I didn't read this earlier because I got it in the minute you said "lateral thinking".

Oh, now I get it. And it gets rather interesting...
There is also another similar type of series, where you write the numbers in the order that they appear, as opposed to counting up the number of occurances of each number and putting the highest first. It goes like this:
is this supposed to be fun? im gonna go play some mindless shoot-em-up games now.. bye!

Grand Theft Auto is always fun.

Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec is also good...
But I'm a tad biased

Counterstrike! I just got introduced to that game the other day. My friends are turning their basement into a working bar (complete with pool table), and in preperation of painting the room maroon, we were putting up primer. Afterwards, we played Counterstrike -- since they've each got cable modems and access to their own computers, we had some fun playing: they work well together, I guess they play it quite a bit. It's funny to hear them coordinating their strategies by shouting into the hall at each other. I played a few games, I almost always got killed, although I did kill a CT once (when we were playing as T, of course). It was most fun. I tried to DL the software for it, but the DL was too long for me (I'm on a dial-up), so I ordered the software from GameSpy.com on a CD -- should have it in a couple of days. Woohoo!
