Well, I finally got that National Geographic map of the galaxy, and have made several observations.

1. Earth is on the inner edge of the Orion Arm, which in and of itself is a pretty short arm.

2. Klingons are also on the Orion Arm.

3. Romulans are a bit tough to figure out. They're either on the Sagittarius Arm or the Carina Arm. The Orion Arm is kind of squished in between the Sagittarius, Carina, and Perseus Arms, resulting in a very small gap between them, so travel between these arms should not be difficult.

4. The Cardassians appear to be where the Sagittarius Arm and the Orion Arm actually touch, so they could very well be on both.

5. The Dominion is on the Outer Arm.

6. Voyager was snatched from the inner Orion Arm or outer Sagittarius Arm to the outer edge of the Carina Arm. The ship skipped over most of that arm when they went through Borg space. The Void does look as though it corresponds to the gap between the Carina and Crux Arms. After crossing through the Void, Voyager was on the Crux Arm until "Timeless," when they got onto the Norma Arm. After "Dark Frontier," they are now on the 3 KPC (kiloparsec, I presume) Arm, which they will be on for some time, as it runs parallel to the ship's course right now.

7. Krenim space appears to be on both the Carina and Crux Arms.

8. Malon space, being the deranged size it is, is on too many arms to mention.

9. Ankari space is on the 3 KPC Arm.

10. This was actually pointed out to me by TSN: There is no Denkiri Arm, which was supposedly the arm where the Delta Quadrant terminus of the Barzan Wormhole was. Instead, its terminus is on the Carina Arm, as evidenced by "False Profits."

Just how detailed is this Galactic map? Does it have some (real life) system names on it? Is it to scale? I may just have to go out and buy this issue

Thanks for the part of the map Frank!

It puts a new spin on The Valiant and The Enterprise in "Where No Man..." reaching the edge of the Galaxy... maybe they reach the boundary of one of the arms like Voyager in "Night"?

Same maybe for "The Final Frontier"

I think Paul has suggested that before. Personally I prefer the "top" or "bottom" theory. They would be reachable with the originall Enterprise and unlike the spiral arm theres no real stretching involved. I mean they are the edges of the galaxy, just not the "edge" most people assumed Kirk was talking about.

Dangit!

I was gonna post that pic first!

Oh well.

I got that issue too and it is a really impressive map!

WE NEED THE REST OF THAT PICTURE!!

Gah! I can't make head nor tail of Krenim's directions if I can't see the map.
Could anyone scan all of it in, please.

But...how in the hell can the Dominion be on the Outer Arm? (that is the arm on the bottom of the pic, right?) This picture only shows half of the galaxy, at most. And I think it only shows the Alpha and Beta quadrants.
So how can you show Voyager's position or indeed that of the Dominion on half a map?

Alas, I have not a scanner.

Yes, the Outer Arm is visible in the portion that Frank posted. It stretches from the Gamma Quadrant, through the Alpha Quadrant, and into the Beta Quadrant.

I stuck my groupwise shortcut(Earth, with an arrow going around it) under the "We are here" sign.
