How many of you have read the series? I have all of the books including the Captain's Table book about Calhoun and the Double Helix book with the NF crew in it. And New Frontier is now my favourite series. And Frank, don't go spouting that it's not canon. Who cares? I don't. So, this is the Official New Frontier Discussion Thread, or the ONFDT. Let's talk!

I only read the first mini series (are actually listened to it on tape during a painting class), but that wa a couple years ago. I don't remember it all that well. I do remember I thought it was pretty goo though. I liked seeing some familiar faces; Dr. Selar, that hottie Lt. played by Ashley Judd...

You'll have to refresh my memory on what the series is about though. Isn't alot of political stuff?

Lt. Robin Lefler

And I suppose there's a lot of political stuff in the first 4 books, but after that there's a lot more. Basically the Excalibur is sent to Sector 221-G to lend humanitarian aid where needed. Sometimes this gets messy, such as in Dark Allies. I won't tell you what happens, cause that'll spoil it...

Yeah, Robin Lefler. That's the one I'm thinking of...

*plots to track Will Wheaton down and disembowl him for getting to kiss Ashley Judd*

I really do need to read those books. Maybe I can get them on tape somewhere and listen whilst I work. From what I can tell, they're all but canon. They don't really cross over into any of the seroes do they?

Maybe I'm changing the topic here, but I haven't read New Frontier.
What's the story about?

Aban: If you're going to continue with NF, you must read the following books in the following order:
-NF #5: Martyr
-NF #6: Fire On High
-Captain's Table #5: Once Burned
-Doble Helix #5: Double or Nothing
-NF #7: The Quiet Place
-NF #8: Dark Allies

Prakesh: Okay. NF is all about the good ship Excalibur. She is commanded by Mackenzie Calhoun, former warlord of the planet Xenex. The Excalibur is sent to former Thallonian space, Sector 221-G, to lend humanitarian aid and prevent the sector from falling into chaos. Familiar faces on the Excalibur include Commander Shelby, Doctor Selar, and Lieutenant Robin Lefler (although I think she's referred to as Ensign Lefler for some strange reason...)

So, in effect, it does cross-over w/ TNG, byt bringing back three one-shot characters. Okay, Lefler was seen twice, but you know what I mean... :-)

By cross over I meant interfere with the current TV series events. I knew they had a couple of TNG faces on board, which I think is really cool, but I mean there's nothing to stop what happens in the books from being "real". Unless of course Ashley Judd shows up on Voyager saying she transferred to the Voyager after Generations and has been aboard the whole time. Possible? Ah, probably not...

Lefler's an ensign, actually.

The books are very good, and the rpemise is an interesting crossbreed of DS9's and Voyager's, IMO.

Although I must now kill Peter David.

Fine... About to follow: NF Spoilers about the size of an offhand comment in Voyager's "Drone" saying they should get a new shuttle.

He can't bloody blow up the good ship Excalibur for no reason!

He blew it up??? I have only read thre first four books and the Captain's Table book. What happened?

------------------
All hands, abandon ship! All hand, abandon...
BOOM!

I knew it! I knew it! I told Garak he should put spoiler warnings in, but he didn't listen...

To put it simply, I don't know either. Neither does Garak. "Dark Allies" (NF #8) ended with the sentance "And then the Excalibur blew up". No warning, no indicators. Only a small bit of foreshadowing.

I'm very bitter about it. It's either a) not really going to happen (temporal something), b) going to be a stupid ploy to get a Sovereign or something, or c) something else really dumb.

Seeing as the book itself basically just says the ship is going to blow up five minutes later, how much worse is saying it? "I certainly would rather get my spoilers from Peter David's book than someone else."? Not like it matters much; all I know is that one line, which, in itself, is the last line of the book, so if you pick up the novel to see how many pages it is, you almost bump into it anyway...

I predict the first line of the next novel will be:

"...a big balloon full of plasma to celebrate Shelby's birthday."

------------------
"I cannot live out that life.
That man is bereft of passion... and imagination!
That is not who I am!"

"... said Mackenzie Calhoun, five minutes before the Excalibur blew up a big balloon full of plasma to celebrate Shelby's birthday."? *LOL*
