Please excuse this irresponsible rumor-mongering, but Ain't it cool news http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cgi?id=4989 reports that that three possible series 5 concepts are still alive and have been presented to focus groups: Starfleet Academy, Starfleet Seals, and Early Federation. Also check the "talk back" section for comments by people who are not as deep into Trek as we are.For you Transformers fans, this site also reports that a CGI Transformers movie is in the works http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cgi?id=4991 Scroll down to near the end of the article. ------------------ When you're in the Sol system, come visit the Starfleet Museum

I'm not sure about the rest of you, but a Star Trek SEALs, is sort of my dream. I would like it if they had their own one-of-a-kind ship as well. Not exactly utopian-ish, but my kind of star trek. ------------------ Navigator-"Heading, Sir?" Kirk-"Out there...somewhere...out thatta-way."--Star Trek: TMP

I also like the 3rd idea. It would make Star Trek new and fresh. That is what Trek basically needs, a new start and no politics between the writers, producers, etc. Everyone needs to be focussed on their job, and then Trek could return. This idea brings element's of Gene Roddenberry's future back.------------------ All hands, abandon ship! All hand, abandon... BOOM!

AICN has a terrible, terrible track record w/Trek, as Sol has pointed out. To add to this, IMHO the article does not sound particularly, well, truthful. I'm honestly gonna disregard this...the concepts are really no different than the piles off fannish bullshit that has been flapping around for months now.------------------ The above post was mulled-over, composed, and posted during time Tom would have better spent on his plethora of homework and homework-related exercises. Sol: Of course, no offense taken. I'm well aware of the occasional shoddiness of reporting at some sites. Just because I pass the rumor along doesn't mean that I think it's true. I hoped I don't seem that gullible!------------------ When you're in the Sol system, come visit the Starfleet Museum

TSN: sadly I bet the new CGI transformers movie will be based on the crappy spinoffs! I miss the old show, someday I will by them all on video or DVD! I even have some old Transformers comics somewhere..Sol: I think AICN has mostly bogus rumours when it comes to anything, and not just trek related. it's all fan dreams. Idea 1: 90210, yuk! Idea 2: Not really Federation-like. StarTrek was never supposed to be a kick-ass sci-fi action series. Idea 3: Very high chance of inconsistencies with TOS and TNG and back to cheap looking sixties props isn't possible I think. Pre-TOS would be quite irrealistic, 'cause it should start around 1996!------------------ So small, so innocent, so young, so delicately done, grown up in your poison. I've said it before, a Daedalus era series would be very cool but here are the reasons Paramount will NEVER do it:1) Absolutely no crossover possibilities since none of the TOS characters will have even been born yet. The only way to do this would be to have the crew encounter Picard and company in the Ent E floating in space after being sent back in time or something. 2) Trying to build a bigger fan base will not include going back to retro looking sets and ship designs. While I think the Daedalus Class makes perfect sense and fits in well with the era, Paramount will never sanction showing one week after week when they could be showing Sovies and Akiras blowing things up. 3) This series and the founding days of the Federation would be of little to no interest to anyone who wasn't already a Trek fan. No new viewer base. All that being said, I would love to see the series on the air. ------------------ "A gathering of Angels appeared above my head. It'll almost certainly be a Beast Wars/Machines story. Which'll be cool. (Hey, you'd love it Monty if they put the episodes on at a decent time). As for the ideas. I dunno. On the one hand, I want something different. But then nothing has really jumped out at me yet. And ideas are one thing. Execution is another. ------------------ "Sorry Wendy, I just can't trust something that bleeds for five days and doesn't die." Mr Garrison

But an early federation series DOESN'T have to have the retro TOS set design. They can be something a little closer to today's technology. Chcochrane's ship in FC, the Phoenix, didn't have paper printers and funny noises like the TOS enterprise. It was more like an advancd fighter jet of today in terms of the interiror. Why couldn't a dadelus class ship have an interior like that? Or, it doesn;t even need to be a dadelues class ship. The seriers could take place right after cchrane's flight. And I don't see why an early federation or pre-federation series wouldn't attract more fans. That farscape show, which takes place in the late 20th-ealry 21st century (today), and tells the story of an astruonaut trying to get home, was in my opinion a better series than 24th centruy starfleet officers trying to get home. An early federation/pre-federation show would allow us to see humans that are more like the humans of today, and so would proabably relate better to today's viewers. An early federation/pre-federationm series could deal with the same kind of issues that we deal with today, not the 15th borg-invasion threat or the wierd-sppacial-anomaly threat that we always see on voyager.------------------ Obviously you refuse to cooperate with me. Obviously you have no discipline to kepp the mouth shut. Obviously you don't. Let's try it that way, then you might get the hint. How many more minutes are we going to waste asking you not to talk? If nothing else, it should attract more viewers. You'd have all those who already watch Trek, watching it because it's Trek. And then you'd have other people who wouldn't normally watch Trek, who would watch it because of the fact that it isn't like other Trek.------------------ "If you attempt to return the device to the store, and you are missing one single peanut, the store personnel will laugh in the chilling manner exhibited by Joseph Stalin just after he enslaved Eastern Europe."

How about an early Fed show based around the mysterious Spaceship Enterprise seen only in TMP? The only canon info on it is the picture, so they could make it whatever they wanted.------------------ You are wise, witty, and wonderful, but you spend far too much time reading this sort of trash.
