Without criticizing, what are the "evil species"'s motive? Are they of Kazon-level or dumber? 500 lightyears isn't that long, is it? Maybe it could be stretched out in two episodes.
The other major powers should be interested both in stopping this threat and getting some wonder juice for themselves.

His fall was not a small one.
We did but build his pedestal,
A narrow and a tall one.

Basic premises don't carry shows very far, though. Voyager had the most clearly defined premise of all the shows, and failed to milk it. DS9 chose one of the vague original premises (Bajoran power struggles) and toyed with it, then discarded it in favor of an all-new war motif, and finally even got some mileage out of the Bajoran religion and Emissary business. You never know how a show will develop, no matter how good or bad a premise you formulate for it...

If I can visualize it.
Imagine a Trek series with a regular villain ... I mean, name in title credits regular villain. Starship is for whatever reason in enemy space -- perhaps disputed territory between UFP and other race? For whatever reason, this ship, the USS Nameless, keeps coming in contact with villain, and villain's mission (or secret desire) is to destroy NAMELESS ... but he keeps failing ...
Eh. Sounds too much like "Dukes of Hazzard" or "The Smurfs" ...

"...[They've] been so completely dumbed down by the media, by tabloid scumbags, by the Christian "right", by politicians in general, the school, parents who are dumber than their parents were, who are dumber than their parents were, and all of whom think that they can bring up a child just because they got down in bed and had a little sex...well, frankly, here is an audience that knows more and more about less and less as the years go by...We are talking about a constituency...that knows nothing. This is pandemic; terrifyingly, paralyzingly pandemic. They know absolutely nothing."
