There are almost no Federation ships capable of sustaining warp 9.8 for days. Probably only the latest models can hold that like the Sovereign, Intrepid and almost sertainly the Prometheus (which is upto now the _official_ Federation record holder with a stable and sustained warp 9.9).

As far as I know the only statement made that actually makes clear Starfleet has ship capable of sustaining high warp speeds is about the two ships Starfleet is sending to catch up with Voyager. 30000 lightyears in 5 or 6 years is FAST! Although they won't have to do the full 30000 lightyears, since Voyagers is heading towards them. Even so, six years at constant warp 9.9 will _only_ get you about 18500 lightyears away...

I saw the ep a few weeks ago but I don't remember if the ship-type/s was specified. Was it?
Maybe they only took two Nebulas or Akiras, cut back on everything non-essential and flushed the extra juice into engines.
Would make for some boring six years, but...

I think it just said they were deep space exploratory vessels. Didn't give the class or anything.

The Enterprise had problems maintaining warp 9.7 while being chased by a Borg cube, and had to be repaired afterwards...

And the Enterprise is a deep space exploration vessel...

The former, late Enterprise WAS an old exploratory vessel, it's schematics being conceived in the late 2350's.
