I was thinking about this yesterday. If you had to be a member of a star trek alien race, what would you be and why?I found it really interesting what people said. I think I would be 1/2 Bajoran because I often feel things are against me and I guess I do believe in 'something else' being out there, 1/4 Cardassian because I have a mean streak in me that I often dont realise I have and finally 1/4 Romulan because I keep to myself at times and can be quite deceptive Well that was complicated wasn't it. Maybe that gave you an insight, maybe not. I'd be interested in what others think. A

I'm so laid back and unfazed many people have called me a Vulcan in the past. So yeh, that's what I am I guess. But I think we'd all like to be a member of the Q continuum.

A Vulcan's intellect, a Romulan's passions, a Klingon's honor, an (original) Borg's relentlessness, and a Q's sense of humor.

Well, since every compelling race in Star Trek has been some aspect of humanity blown out of porportion, we've all got a little bit of every major species.

Omega: Well, what element of humanity do the Breen represent, then? And don't even think about suggesting the Breen weren't compelling....

I don't think they "represent" those traits, as such. It makes them sound like some sort of symbolism. I think it's more just that each of these races have had certain traits assigned to them, and they're used to stereotype the groups. Like the way Cardassians are apparently very family-conscious. It doesn't mean they "represent" that. We're not supposed to watch the Cardassians and learn something about family values. It's just a device to make them unique. Unfortunately, things like that also make them unbelieveable, but oh well...

I mostly agree with the aspects that have been listed for the races expet Borg= Order and logic, authoritarian I realy think that the Borg represent an avatistic fear that technlogy has invaded the soul of humanity, i.e. assimliton leading to a loss of individualism and the false path of technological perfection etcera. Cardassian= Intrigue, charismatic ambition I really don't see that. Whilest there were flashs of that from Duhkat and Garak, most cardies came off as a bunch facists.I agree that most of the races were used as symbols and do wish that we had seen some more detailed looks to make them more three dimensional. As for what alien I'd be, hmmm, well the Trill have cute women plus nine life times of experice would not hurt eihter.

That is one thing that DS9 never addressed about Trills. Are the symbionts ageless!?! I'd say not. It would have been interesting to see the 'death' of a trill symbiont. The host though would be still alive... it would necessitate a new Trill for the host. This would, I assume allow the memories of the old Trill symbiont to remain alive in the same Trill host but with a new Trill Symbiont. Hey, it might be the source of any hyphenated Trill names Ezri Dax-Kahn (just as an example if the Dax symbiont eventually died and the Kahn symbiont was still alive and in need of a new host.)Andrew [ June 13, 2001: Message edited by: AndrewR ]
