Well, here's to fresh blood, I suppose. But "From the producer of Tomb Raider and the director of U.S. Marshals" sounds like the perfect advertisement for a movie I would never pay money to see.

Well, he's an incredible editor. Certainly that'll be a plus in pacing an action film.
I wonder if he's cut from the same "I'm a big Star Trek fan" cloth as Logan?

I seen US Marshals and Executive Decision. They were both pretty okay movies. The direction and pacing were really good. I think the main problem with those two movies was a weak story and some stiff acting.
I'll cautiously say that Stuart Baird is a good choice. However, I would have rather picked someone with a larger background in film directing. But on the other hand, he has an excellent background in film editing. That'll be a good thing when it comes time to assemble the final product.

I can see both sides of this. On the one hand, a film by "Jaques Jaques", famous director of "man looks at an orange for three hours" would appeal to no-one. OTOH, do you want a big budget "guns guns guns" director all over a Trek picture (especially since Trek pictures really aren't that big-budget at all).
What did Nick Meyer do before Trek II anyway?

He directed Time after Time where Author H.G. Wells chases Jack the Riper through time. Sounds corny go visit Imdb for more info

Nick Meyers had only worked on one other film before as a director he was tapped to direct The Wrath of Khan. As a writer, he had only worked on five films prior to TWoK. The only one of the stories that was apparently any good was the Sherlock Holmes story "The Seven Percent Solution." And Time After Time seemed to be a decent movie according to the IMDb reviews.
Nick Meyers turned out to be a very good Trek director. The same could happen with Stuart Baird. Of course, Robert Wise had a long directing career before The Motion Picture, and that film is usually considered either boring, long, confused, decent, okay, or pretty good. We'll have to wait to find out.

Dude. That sounds awesome.... i'm a big fan of The Time Machine. The guy inside The Time Machine (in the movie) is George Wells.
