I'd like the opinions of you good Flarers. Should I resist the temptation of reading Trek X spoilers or give in and read? I just started reading an article on TrekToday about how somebody thought it sucked - and would dearly like to know exactly why he thinks that. Should I give in to the dark side? What is everyone else doing?

I won't believe any of it until I see it anyway. Alot of what I've heard has what I'd call a fan-boyish quality to it. But some of it sounds good. I guess only you can make that decision.

If you do what The_Tom's doing and avoiding everything that even mentions Star Trek X in passing, then you'll be more likely to enjoy Star Trek X. If read the spoilers and the commentary, then you are going to walk into the theaters with preconceived notions of how the film is going to be. If you don't like what you've read, you're going to be mentally set into thinking the film will bomb. It will be harder to accept the good in the film. If you do like what you've read, you're going to run the chance of being disappointed if the information you've read doesn't match up with the film or if the direction of the scene isn't as crisp as you pictured in your mind.

So sorry to interrupt your grinning gushings of overwhelming pride in yourself, Da_bang80. Why does everyone complain about spoilers, anyways? It's not like you won't be able to enjoy a film if you know a few key plot points. Go ahead and go for it, Stingy. Read all of that crap with SPOILERS plastered all over it. What's the big deal? Half of it is just crap and is totally inaccurate or will be cut from the final film, and the rest doesn't really matter all that much. It's nothing earth-shattering.

(riiiighht...thanks dabang. you really are...the bang...)For the exact reason the Sig stated. If you go in with preconceptions, then you are most definetely biased one way or another when you go into see it. It really comes down to two things: the presentation and the little things. I can get all the plot developments and character growth and starship stats from the spoiler threads. But if I know this going in, I'm not paying attention when it comes up. And that means I'm not paying attention to the editing, camera work, subtext, subtletities, nuanced acting, etc. etc. etc. I suppose I'm lookin for an excuse to read spoilers even though I don't want to. So anybody got anything more convincing?

"(riiiighht...thanks dabang. you really are...the bang...)"what is that supposed to mean? I'm not proud of not being able to see what happens at the end of the show. I wanna know. but if i can't find out i won't lose any sleep over it.

Now, without responding 'you.', what exactly is a Fanboy?

I don't know the formal definition, but fanboys are the rabid fans (circle one: Star Trek, Star Wars, Other) that basically have orgasms because of the technological level of a particular ship. Thus, the fanboys were having to change their underwear every ten seconds when watching the Enterprise-E in action through First Contact and Insurrection. They also can be best described as horny nerds.Possible Fanboy sayings: "I lIkE 7 of ninE cuz she haAS DA bIG TITIITITTTITITIITIES!" "I luv ThE ENt-E cuz Of THE QUTUM TOorps ANd tYPe XXXVI phazurs!!!1!!!!!"

don't read it... i did...and i don't know why...i read the title and everything but for some reason it just didn't click in my mind and i went in anyway...through just about the first paragraph...*click* i stopped and said "AHHH CRAP!" Even if that stuff was fake or innaccurate...it did paint a picture in my mind of in which direction the film should follow. One of the things i wish i didn't know and now unfortunatly expects to see in the film is... which i rather have been surprised on when seeing it in theaters. $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ Rikers wedding.

For some reason this is quite amusing. It looks like TheF0rce isn't giving Stingray the chance to decide to visit the Trek X spoiler thread or not. You can't make a Flare-goer go to a spoiler thread, but you can make the spoilers go to the Flare-goer.

Or, as we old timers round here say, "you can lead a horse's ass to spoilers, but you cannot make him think." 8)

GRRR...fortunetley, that little piece has already been spoiled by my own weak will, so its not such a huge infraction. Just a major statement of stupidity.
