My first topic... woo hoo!

I just finished reading the novelization of "Equinox." (As previously mentioned, I live in a place where I can't get ANY ST on TV.) At the end of the book (presumably in the second part of the episode,) Janeway and Chakotay are on the damaged bridge of the Voyager, and they see on the floor amid the rubble the ship's dedication plaque. According to the book, the plaque reads:

USS VOYAGER
UNITED FEDERATION OF PLANETS
Starfleet Registry NCC-74656
Intrepid Class
Kathryn Janeway, Master and Commander

It's that last line I have a problem with. Did the plaque in the episode read that way? Are there other canon plaques that have the current captain listed so prominently, or at all?

Wasn't that novelization by Diane Carey? She likes to insert things from today's or yesterday's seagoing navies to Trek, even when they have no place there, and this might be one such thing. The actual original plaque doesn't have the name of the captain anywhere, at least not according to Encyclopedia reproductions - and it seems apparent that this original plaque was the one used in "Equinox" as well.

In fact, no cannon plaques that I know of list the captain's name at all. But all of them have dedications (at least all except the the E-nil). Voyager's is something from Tennyson I think.

"I dipt into the future, far as human eye could see; saw a vision of the world and all the wonder that would be." Or something like that.

That's one thing I really hate about Diane Carey's novelisations and novels.
