Are you thinking of the episode 'Meld'? If so the mind meld was with the psychotic Lt Suder. He was Betazoid.

Nope, it's not "Meld", it's "Random Thoughts". Unfortunately, I never saw that episode, so I can't comment on the arm-biting alien..

There were several sequences in Tuvok's meld that were taken from the motion picture "Event Horizon", like the blood covered, burning man who was the imagined late astronaut friend of Laurence Fishburne's character. There were some more things from "Event Horizon" there and undoubtedly other horrible details from other movies, I have no idea how the hell they got the rights to insert that in their own show.
Anyhow, the species you refer to probably wasn't even Trek related so I wouldn't get my hopes up there...
