I've realized how Voyager couldv'e (and shouldv'e) gotten home in "Caretaker." Why not just place timed explosives on the Array, set them, use the Array to go back to the Alpha Quadrant, and then right when they leave the explosives blow up the array, saving the Ocampa and defeating the Kazon. Of course, if Voyager did that, there would be no series. Comments?

Well, firstly, the Caretaker was dead, and who knows how long it would have taken them to understand the Array's controls (although no doubt, given their performace over the next seven years, they would have just looked at them and worked it out instantly).
Then you have the attacking Kazon, with more on the way. Although again, as would be proved over the next couple of years, the Kazon weren't actually very dangerous.
Plus Janeway's a pain in the neck who'd insist on doing the job right. . .

Yeah, they stole all those big ships from the Trabe and couldn't get any water, and even the Borg considered them unworthy for assimilation! Maybe Lt. Cavik (The original first officer on Voyager) wouldv'e advised Janeway better than Chakotay. (Although he got killed by getting up when Janeway ordered "Brace yourselves!")

Yeah, I noticed this idea back when "Caretaker" first premiered...

There's a school of thought which suggests that even when dead, Lt. Commander Cavit could've advised Janeway better than Chakotay ever could. 8)

A very good point.

Who's to say she didn't? Perhaps all the times she utterly ignored Chakotay's advice, it was because she'd already gone down to the morgue and gotten a second opinion?

Amazing. Seven years, and the Voyager - Dark Star connection totally eluded us. They even had a talking bomb in one ep. . . and as for Janeway vs. the Macroviri, who else was thinking "Look out, a bright red rubber beachball!"
