I was wondering how many people live on DS9. Hundreds? Thousands? Before the Defiant, they only had 3 runabouts and whatever ships were visiting the station to evacuate. Wouldn't Starfleet have some sort of regulation for having enough vessels to evacutate everyone?

I think it was something like 300 Bajorans and 50 SF personell

Something like that. The tech. manual says that the station can, at its maximum, support 25,000 people.

In 'Crossfire', when Odo and Worf are discussing security arrangements for Shakaar's arrival, Worf suggests clearing "that entire section of the habitat ring", a suggestion that Odo scuppers by noting that a huge number live there. He specified the number, but I can't recall it at the moment. Something like 1,000 or more.

And that's just a section of the habitat ring, mind.

In that episode where the Scriyans come through the 'eye of the universe', Odo mentions a figure doesn't he? I can't remember what it is, but he definitely said something about the population of DS9.

But bear in mind that there are many civilians on the station. Easily as many as crew...

Population would go up and down a lot, depending on how dangerous it was to be on the station.

Odo said that the station only holds 7,000 people when refering to the 3,000,000 Skreean refugees.

Remember, evac and escape are two different things. The station does have enough escape pods for escape (although the creators completely ignored this fact) but facilities often have to make special arangements for evacuation.

I suspect the number of station personnel varies greatly depending on which season you are talking about. Towards the end it was a major base for many ships, probably housing up to 700 crew: Bajorans and starfleet. In addition, a typical non-resident population of about another few hundred or so. It could of course accomodate thousands, although seldom has been that busy.

The Klingons had a presence there as well, after the war got underway.

It may not be considered one of the most canon resources, but the Star Trek Universe - DS9 card claims that the standard station crew compliment being 300
