That new shuttle/fighter is just fucking sweet (excuse the french).
By far, this looks like the most exciting Star Trek movie ever created. I expect it to at least be on par with First Contact and The Undiscovered Country.

I've edited the thread because this may bring up possible spoilers.
Three comments I have on the teaser: 1) Lt. Cmdr Worf's Presence. How will they pull this off? 2) Starfleet Dune Buggies? 3) Maybe it is me, but I think that Ent-E gets blown to kingdom come on this one. Data appears to be jumping from the wreckage of the Ent-E. Perhaps that is how he will "die" in this movie.

1) Bad Writing. I mean, REALLLLLLY bad writing. 2) It's a jeep. No shit, a starfleet jeep. Still a favorite of the military complex, centuries from now. God Bless America. And it hardly looks like the stuff in Road Warrior. 3) Google will tell you in 0.05 seconds, if you really want to know. God Bless Google, for us impatient fanboys.
Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :
You haven't been keeping up the online scripts and Internet rumor-mongering, eh Tahna?
All your questions are answered online, but I ain't adding some huge spoilers to this thread.
The thing that struck me most about the teaser is the music. I'm assuming that the music are excerpts from Goldsmith's score. If that is true, I think the music will be a treat. It certainly sounds quite moody and somewhat mysterious. It kinda reminded me of ST6:TUC's teaser in this regard. Besides, Goldsmith is due for another good Star Trek score.
A big plus for this trailer is they didn't add any of the corny lines to it that have been hinted at online. This is a reversal from Insurrection's teasers and trailers where we got "Saddle up/Lock and load" and "Definitely feeling aggressive tendencies." At least the teaser here looks like the film isn't attempting to have a lot of comedic elements in it.
The effects work, overall, I think looks pretty good. I'm still undecided on how to feel about the Scimitar. It's really glitzy and all, but I don't think it looks too CGI-ish. It could be cool, but I'm going to wait until I see more the ship. The Jeep and its shuttle carrier, I think, look pretty good. I don't think the Jeep looks cheesey at all, and the shot of it jumping into its shuttle looked good.
Overall, I think the teaser was all right.

The music was nice, indeed. I think you can download it already somewhere...
Christ. The internet is corrupting me. Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :
Eh, it's not so bad being corrupted by the Internet. Well, it is once you start paying money to actually join a porn site or one of the 24/7 voyeur sites. Then, you've got a bit of a problem.

to me, it looked like Data was jumping from the wrekage of the Scimitar, or another Romulan ship. i could be wrong though, obviously, since all we saw was half a second of wrekage. Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :
Ok steering clear of pr0n...
I haven't downloaded preview - crappy computer...
But I went to the website and slowly... plodded throught the flash sections... and I saw a picture of the bridge crew - I think it's under the 'enterprise' section... and guess what--- I think the Conn officer is Lt. Ayala!!!!!! From Voyager. I think in "Homestead" he had moved to the Conn position - well when Paris wasn't there. And he was wearing command red.
Hey, It mightn't be him - but it would be good.
Oh and also it says that the Enterprise E was launced on stardate 49827.5 Would this be correct?

It looks more like a recent SW movie than a Trek one.
"1) Lt. Cmdr Worf's Presence. How will they pull this off?"
He didn't like being an ambassador, so he quit and went back to Starfleet.
"3) Maybe it is me, but I think that Ent-E gets blown to kingdom come on this one."
Only mostly.
Posted by nx001a (Member # 291) on :
According to the information on the nemesis website Commander Worf h is still the Federation Ambassador to Qo'nos.
But i am betting that he is back on the Enterprise for good unless they make a DS9 movie.
Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :
Based on the feel of the trailer and the overt Dracula feel of the website, it's obvious that they're going for a creepy suspensful kind of feel here. At least for the trailer. In my opinion, it's about time they did that with Star Trek. We need a Trek that makes me wet myself. I don't think they did it enough with FC which would have been the perfect opportunity.
I agree with the comment about the contrast to the Insurrection trailers with the corny catchphrases. They're obviously going for a different kind of feel here. All in all... I'm now excited. Definitely more excited than I was about Insurrection.
Did anyone notice how similar the Romulan capital city looks to the matte paintings we saw of it during TNG and DS9? I thought that was great!

Why does a jeep of the late 24th century have wheels? In all the Earth-episodes they had flying "cars".
Posted by Snay (Member # 411) on :
I'm sure that there is still need for vehicles capable of moving on land rather then over land. Perhaps there is a method to interfere with the ability of shuttles and other ships to "fly" in an atmospheric environment, thus requiring something capable of movement without warp or impulse engines!
Posted by DeadCujo (Member # 13) on :
I was just sad that I have to wait to see it. Posted by Dukhat (Member # 341) on :

Yes, but wouldn't it be more logical to use something like a helicopter, though?

Is this script still out there on the net somewhere, accessible?
As for the trailer and the movie itself, considering Trek's trend towards a more Star Wars like feel, all I have to say is I have a bad feeling about this.
Posted by Mark Nguyen (Member # 469) on :
How is this trending more towards Star Wars? There is no real sign of the hideously antiseptic visual presentation we've seen in the last two movies, and we *know* that given the chance these actors can actually act. The aliens aren't CGI, there are no hokey one-liners (in the trailer, anyway), and so forth.
If anything, the trailer reminds me very much of the commercials for recent spy thrillers for stuff like the Bourne Identity or The Sum of All Fears, in tone and presentation - and this is a good thing. The only thing I'll have trouble accepting is how old the actors are now - everyone's fifteen years older, and alone they'd never have a leading role in a film (save Patrick Stewart, of course). The only time that such a cast gets this old is in franchise movies like this, which is extrememly rare.
On the other hand, these guys are at about the same place that the TOS crew was at when they were making TWOK - fifteen years after the start of their series. The TOS crew on average was much younger though...
And hey, here's another point to ponder - as of this movie, the TNG gang will have spent more time with the Enterprise-E than they ever did on the E-D. Gotta wonder just what kind of adventures we've missed. I mean, when they were on the E-D they routinely saved the universe, travelled all over the place in time, been to whole other galaxies, etc. With the E-E, they've gone to Earth to stop one Borg ship, and then saved 600 people on a backwater planet. Yay.

I think they should have a soft-core porn scene with Picard and Beverly - Riker and Data can be in the background providing the 'soundtrack'!

i think the copy of the script i have, hasbeen revised (from the shooting stage rewrite after the casting changes) and has the scene being re-editted to only have Picard dry humping Janeway...

Very clever. Posted by Vice-Admiral Michael T. Colorge (Member # 144) on :
Ok, I have several comments to what I saw in the trailer, and even after doing many freeze frames... there are two Data's in the movie... is that then Lore in restraints? The new shuttle reminds me of the ones from Enterprise... go figure considering the interior runabout sets and the Type-9 sets are mostly gone now. The interior of that Reman ship looks like the assimilated corridors of the Enterprise-E in First Contact. In fact, it is the Enterprise's corridor remade to look Reman. I see that Janeway's crew quarters are still being blown up for its appearance. And that is not Picard screwing Troi... it's that Schizon guy.

Who is the bald Matrix-dude who stands in front of the romulan table?
And the corpseskull-guys with oversized heads, looking like that cantina band in Mos Eisley, I wonder if they are a benevolent species that love furry animals, they couldn't be another typecast purely evil species that can be killed off with good conscience a la Jem'Hadar, could they?
The flashing text "Final journey" looked like "ANAL JOURNEY", which was not nice.
The design of that big, cloaking vessel was a bit too Dominion-like IMO, and it had no good nose design, not even the "fork" of the winged Dominion battlecruiser it's shaped after. Looked like it had those big belly pods found on the Negh'Var too.

And the bald guy is Shinzon, a Romulan clone of Picard (don't ask), and the ugly guys are Orcs Remans.
