While reading Bormanis' "Science Logs" this afternoon after work, I started to think about a few things, namely in the area of scientific research.
Right now, the "holy grail" is the Unified Field Theory (AKA the Grand Unification Theory). It's what everyone's after, & it's even a point of consternation for Stephen Hawking. Now, it would seem to me that the initiation of warp drive would mean that this theory has finally been discovered, & indeed maybe it wasn't that Cochrane, Sloane, et. al. were trying to go faster than light, but that this was the only way in which to safely & adequately experimentally prove their UFT equations.
But is it possible that in Trek, there IS no proven UFT?
Discuss.

Well, in "The Nth Degree", Geordi was commenting to Barclay that he was arguing Grand Unification Theory with the Holodeck simulation of Einstein and was remarking that the stuff on the blackboard was "way out of" both of their (Barclay's and LaForge's) league.
That suggests to me that GUT hasn't been finalized.

There's a cut scene from Q Who... Geordi and Sonya are walking to 10-F while philosophizing Life, The Universe and Everything:
SONYA: Geordi. Whatever is out here we're going to be the first humans ever to see it. And is it here because we believe in it and have therefore created it, or has it created us?
GEORDI: The Grand Unified Theory and supersymmetry haven't been seriously discussed for years.
SONYA: They also haven't been disproved. I don't know if it's true or not, but I've got to try and find out.
So.

Cool line - shame they cut it.
AND it's kinda ironic in light of Q being part of the episode... a 'god-like' being.
They didn't get rid of her first sentence though, did they?

Not a great pic of the lovely lady but thanks for the thought!
I always thought she was supposed to become a love-intrest for "luckless Laforge" but it never was developed.
Poor Geordi: he never got laid.

That's not entirely true. In a scene cut from "The Naked Now..."
