how long will ENT stay on? 6 years, 7 years? and in that time, the end of the series, will the creation of the Federation occur? now i know lots of people dislike greatly some of the events or the look about ENT but you can easily pass it off as ripple effects of ST:FC. (yes, a crock but nothing else makes much sence in why things are) so assuming that the end of this year or perhaps next season, the ENT saves the day, defeats the Xindi and starts the seeds of the Federation at least...what then? have the producers even said anything about the birth of the Federation? will we see the Earth-Romulan War? what ship will be NCC-1?
gentlemen, let's the arguments begin...
Posted by Harry (Member # 265) on :
Yes.. let's..
Anyway.. going by the usual 1 year per season, the last season would be set in 2157. There is no canon date for the Romulan War, and the Federation was founded in 2161 ("Season 10").
So strictly speaking, they don't have to bother with either.
OTOH, the Andorian/Vulcan arc seems to inevitably end with the birth of the Federation. Especially after lasts weeks frequent use of the word "alliance".
(I just keep editing this) Perhaps some mod should move this to the ENT forum, and perhaps someone should add some $poiler warnings to the title...

April 2157 - April 2158.

I have this feeling that the Xindi Arc might get wound up if not right at the end of this season, then in next season's premiere or soon after. What I reckon'll happen then is that just as Archer & Co think they can breathe again, they'll find themselves in the middle of the Romulan War.
Or maybe not. Maybe Future Guy, who some have said looks Romulan, will turn out to BE Romulan, and is controlling the Suliban in order to change history. That's why he wasn't pleased when the Xindi started pissing about, because it disrupts his carefully controlled plans.
I think it'll be something along these lines. All the indications are that the Xindi Arc won't continue beyond this season, and they can't go back to the way things were before, so they have to find some way to keepo the momentum going.
Posted by WizArtist (Member # 1095) on :
I really don't think they HAVE a direction. This whole storyline seems to move on "Oh, that would be cool" sentiment. I suspect the whole Xindi plotline will be erased at some point. I don't think there is a plan to lead into the Earth vs. Romulus war story.
Posted by Harry (Member # 265) on :
According to previous TrekToday reports, the Xindi Arc is roughly planned all the way up to the end of the season.
Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :
Remember though that the Xindi were tipped off to the destruction of their homeworld by one of the Coldwar factions... Maybe this was done to keep Enterprise out of the Romulan War.
Daniel's said that history still has no record of Enterprise's encounter with the Xindi, which leads me to believe the "whole season never happened" scenario could happen.
The founding of the Federation, in my opinion, would be a natural conclusion to the series... it would also make a good Enterprise movie. The whole premise of the show being a prequel to the Trek that we all know already begs for that event to be shown. And it's already been hinted that Archer has something to do with those events.

They can still start it with the final episode. After all, I'd imagine it'd take a few years to hammer out all the treaties, rules and such.
Posted by Treknophyle (Member # 509) on :
Actually, I'm hoping they save the beginning of the war for the last episode of the series - and then do a feature (or features) within the war.
Although having the war in seasons 6 and 7 would be cool as well. Plenty of opportunity for arcs...

All I care is that they introduce the Daedalus-class and make the damn thing canon once and for all!
Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :
For the love of god, no.

Quiet, you.
Posted by WizArtist (Member # 1095) on :
How about they introduce the Daedalus class....and it doesn't look like the one we've seen? THEN WHAT?
Posted by Cartman (Member # 256) on :
Liam would shed a tear of joy. And then the planet would spontaneously combust.
Posted by WizArtist (Member # 1095) on :
combust or implode?
Would TSN then become Luna's moon?
Posted by Cartman (Member # 256) on :
Actually, I think Luna would become Timmy's moon. B)
Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :
This would be even funnier if we knew a girl called Luna. I could make a Sailor Moon comment, but it would just be a bit gratuatious. And wouldn't work either.

I will destroy you all.
And, no, not by sitting on you. Or anything else of the sort. So don't say it.

Tie us all up to a railroad track with your belt?
I'd like to see the founding of the Federation. There. I said it.
Fuck the Deadalus class though: it's advanced "oildrum" construction is far modern looking for Enterprise.
Posted by Spike (Member # 322) on :
There's no definitive design for the Daedalus class. Yeah, it was implied that Sisko's model was a Daedalus but the bottom line is that they can use whatever design they want without contradicting canon facts.
Posted by Cartman (Member # 256) on :
"And, no, not by sitting on you. Or anything else of the sort. So don't say it."
You'll torture us to death with your gravitational gradient?
Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :
I think at this stage in the argument I suggest someone try to update the Daedalus design with NX-01-era design elements, and then someone else says it's already been tried and it still looked shite. Then Liam says something funny. Then Jason tries to say something funny. Then Tim nixpicks something. Then Sol says something surreal. And so on. . .
Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :
Do you know the pressure that's on me now to say something funny? Damn you.

Ahhhh...no pressure to be funny. All I need to do is try to be funny.
I feel like a corperate CEO: all I have to do is maintain appearances while Liam does all the work and is slowly ground down under the pressure to perform. Liam will be spending his middle years at Betty Ford whilst I lounge at the beach.
Ahhh. (loosens belt a notch) Ahhhhhh.

A dwarf? Do not insult Timmy. He would at least collapse to a neutron star.

I could see an updated version of the Daedalus: they should call it the Pasteur and put a woman in the captains chair...

The same Encyclopedia that showed us what a Romulan ship in the 22nd century would look like?
I couldn't read the registry on Sisko's model, not having super amazing vision. Besides, what does that prove? Sisko could have given it any registry he wanted. Perhaps the one he used was his lucky number, or something?

Prophecy selfFulfilling = new Prophecy; selfFulfilling = "I had too much to think last night."
Homework plus not disappointing expectations all in one post.
(On topic: Technically, there isn't even, necessarily, any proof that the war between Earth and Romulus came prior to the founding of the Federation, considering how many other early TOS references to "Earth" have been happily retrofitted. Though I would not personally consider this the most enjoyable storytelling choice.)

Judging bye abuse here...am I the only one who actiely likes the Daedalus?
Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :
I like the Daedalus. I think the debate is whether or not the model everyone assumes is the Daedalus class is actually the Daedalus class.
Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :
Partly. I also think that the debate is whether the Daedalus is a fucking ugly design that would look awful and out of place on Enterprise, or...not.
Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :
Ah. Yes, it would look out of place. But I think it fits right in with a design lineage based on TOS' Enterprise. And I still think a revamp of the design based on Enterprise's design could work. There's a guy over at Scifi-Meshes that was working on one. It looked darn yummy.
Do I think it will show up in Enterprise? No. There's no way that they will introcduce a more advanced ship than Enterprise during the series.
Posted by WizArtist (Member # 1095) on :
The mistake of enterprise is that the NX-01 looks TOO familiar. It really isn't much of a retrograde design from the Constitutions.
Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :
I really, really can't believe I'm having this discussion again. Hopefully Lee will wander in soon, summerise everything, and then start kicking bottom.
However...

How on Earth can you have a design lineage based on one ship?
quote:And I still think a revamp of the design based on Enterprise's design could work. There's a guy over at Scifi-Meshes that was working on one. It looked darn yummy.
That may be true. But every single one I've ever seen has looked, well, horrible. The Pasteur was about as good as that design could have been made, and that wasn't exactly nice to look at.
quote:Do I think it will show up in Enterprise? No. There's no way that they will introcduce a more advanced ship than Enterprise during the series.
Agreed. Especially since it would look a lot less advanced than the NX-01.
Posted by The Mighty Monkey of Mim (Member # 646) on :
I like the Daedalus very much. It has a wondeful "retro" feel to it of something that really came a century before the NCC-1701.
That being said, the NX-01 has grown on me quite a bit since it first appeared, and I now like the design much better than the Akira. Still, it doesn't look very primitive. It's passable, I'm not in any uproar about it like some, but they really could have done more (if only with the textures and surface detailing) to make it look more "retro."
I wouldn't mind at all seeing a slightly (emphasis on slightly) revamped version of the Daedalus on ENT later in the series. So long as they kept the fundamental elements of the design and didn't go to far from the model, I wouldn't be upset over it. But I definitely would like to see it in some form.

Agreed.
While the deadalus was okay to look at prior to Enterprise, we now have much better looking pre-TOS starship designs to choose from.
The "oildrum with nacelles" can be discarded from continuity as far as I'm concerned....or at least saved for the era just prior to TOS.
Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :
quote:How on Earth can you have a design lineage based on one ship?
Simple. In the real world, design lineage works forward. It's natural. Over time, we see how the design of an object or vehiclke developes. When you're making the whole friggin' thing up, and you have to work backwards, you have to base it on *something*. So you take the TOS Enterprise and work backwards from it making up a design lineage based on the element you already have established. And that's what I meant. The Daedalus, to me, looks like a good precursor to the E-nil... until you throw in the NX-01 as a precursor to the Daedalus. Then it doesn't.
Kick away, Lee.

Correction: it was never okay to look at. B)
Posted by Wraith (Member # 779) on :
I like the Daedalus. So there.
I don't really mind the design of NX-01; I certainly like it more now than when I first saw it. But it still doesn't look particularly primative. I don't think it's a really big thing though.
