Ya Ya. Probly been asked a million times already but I'm just curious as to what everyones favorite Star Trek Ship is. I'll probably have little or no idea what ur talkin about tho since i'm more into Star Wars. But My Favorite is the Akira class. Cuz it looks cool.

As long as people don't go out of their way to post obscure non-mainstream ships just to be "cool" and "different" and "stupid".

If it makes you feel better though - Constitution refit.

YOU, SIR, ARE A DUPLICITOUS POSTER, AND A FRIGGING STAND-UP COMEDIAN, TO BOOT!

At least you didn't call it the Enterprise class...

Personally, I prefer the original Constitution from TOS. I'm also partial to the Galaxy. I'm not exceedingly thrilled with much that came afterward.

Shouldn't this be in Starships & Technology?

I also like the Yamato refit from SFC and Klingon academy. It just looks badass.

Niagara or New Orleans classes, myself...

Constitution refit, no doubts about it. [Smile]

I thought about putting this thread in S&T, AFTER I posted it... If the Moderator wants to put it there then that's up to him I suppose.

Sovereign or Galaxy/Triplane from All Good Things.

Connie refit, though I like the original as well.

OK I haven't read any replies but

1. Constitution Refit - simply beautiful and realistic.

2. Galaxy Class - it looked fantabulous all gussied up in Generations.

3. Defiant - just so different yet still Starfleet

4. Also: Vorcha, Nebula, D'Deridex (Romulan Warbird) and Olympic/Hope/Pasteur

To serve on in my fantasy of fantasies: Galaxy.

To look at: Excelsior (non E-B refit)

Not to be an ass, but I rather like the obscure ships (having built maodels of them), and I dig the Elkins.
Waaaay cooler than the Yeager or standard Intrepid (which I dislike due to it's amputee nacelles).

For mainstream I really live the Sabre class- not much larger than a Defiant lengthwise but looking more "starfleet" with it's twin nacelles.
I really wish we'd have seen more of that class- they made a nice enough CGI of it for SOA nad others, but showed it less than the Yeager...what were they thinking?

What makes the Sabre mainstream and not obscure?

Posted by Ritten (Member # 417) on :

It was on the big screen...

Excelsior then the Oberth...

Excelsior (original model) and Defiant.

Well, we've never really seen the Elkins (possibly it's a blob in the background of one episode), so almost anything is more mainstream.
The Sabre in a couple of DS9 episodes on flyby, First Contact, the ST Encyclopedia, the DS9TM and almost every online size comparison chart.

So...that would be the NX-01? [Wink]

No, thats the NX class [Big Grin]

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

Sure- like the TOS Enterprise is the "NCC" class.

Posted by Captain Boh (Member # 1282) on :

Because the TOS Enterprise was built by the earth starfleet before the Federation was founded. Mmmhmm.

Wait till the next series- it could happen.

Saying "Enterprise-class" doesn't make it any more true.

The Excelsior-class is interesting. When I first saw it (which was after I started watching TNG), I thought it looked ridiculous. Tiny saucer section, stupid black tubing-like neck. But it grows on you, especially once you readjust your thinking from "small saucer" to "long nacelles" (something which is true in reverse for the Galaxy-class).

And I also like the refit job done for Generations, too.

Hmm....do you prefer the "NX" or "NCC" version Excelsior?

Most people I know (myself included) like the "NX" better.

The Galaxy class, especially the way it was shown in Generations, tops my list. Nebula (with triangular pod) is a close second.

And for some reason, the Challenger class is very high on my list. I just like the way the vertical nacelles look.

Galaxy class: for combining beauty and comfort with huge volume and superior equipment.

Runner-up:
Constitution class: for being much the same in 23rd century terms

Chalk up another vote for the Excelsior-class. As old of a design it is, it still has a sleek, fast, futuristic look to it. Very streamlined.

Prometheus Class here... the Sternbach edition.

I can't say I'm really bothered. I think the crystal doowikies on top looked a bit better on the NCC, but it's such a small difference that I can't see too many people caring. Produce these "most people you know".

I never liked the way the show "Enterprise" looked. I mean, the ship looks way more advanced than the Tos enterprise even tho it came out earlier. Why'd they go from flat panel displays to huge clunking moniters? (i know it was cuz they didn't have FPD's in the 60's. but still. and the klingons look like they do in TNG, yet they look like humans in TOS. what the hell? did the Klingons get transumated or something, then changed back and transutated again or what!

Modelers, mostly- we notice all the small diffrences.
The NX version has a correctly scaled bridge (a big silver teardrop shape), for example, while the NCC's bridge is a tiny pea- meaning that Sulu and company are snug in the B-Deck and that Excelsior has starfleet's first recessed bridge design.
There's also a dome towards the rear of the ship that I greatly prefer to the odd box structure there on the STVI version.

Bernd has (as always)a big article on te diffrences and potential scaling issues.

Both NX, NCC and Refit versions are in service in TNG (the Hood, Lakota and all the ships destroyed on DS9 being examples).

Hi, welcome to four and a half years ago.

Yeah....but times and attitudes change, and there have been several new designs since then so...

How could I forget the Ambassador Class!?! Like that too.

Nebula, Akira, Excelsior (Ent B edition, just for the looks).

This however, needs to go to Starships.
