Now this is weird. The only ship I've seen with the Picard crew the last years have been the 1701-E, I'm finally really used to it. Seeing pictures of the 1701-D from the "Generations"-DVD on that page gives me a weird feeling inside, like..."Did they actually fly that old thing in a motion picture?".
To think, if they'd just pulled the anti-Q maneuver from "Encounter..." (10+ torpedoes from aft), they'd have had her with them still. I never heard the official reason for introducing the Sovereign. Does anyone know?
Strange, those original 1701-D blueprints call the Galaxy class a Mark VIX Heavy Cruiser. VIX, is that 5-9, 7-10 or 5110 in roman numerals? I think someone's goofed up.

It's not a Roman number, at any rate. Could be "V9" or "6X", I suppose.

And nothing the crew would have done would have saved the -D. When the writers are against you, you're screwed. They just didn't like having to haul out the 12-foot miniature for filming. I can personally think of a few alternatives to destroying the thing, though. Bastards.

They were going to use mostly CGI in the future anyways - I think it was them just trying to be 'clever' and see the Saucer section crash land and so they could have more marketing ideas with a new Enterprise.

The high poly model of voyager used in Borg4D is even more detailed. 1.6 million polygons...by the time it's finished.

I always thought the Romulan Bird of prey from TOS was a cardboard cut-out moving accross the screen. The video quality was so poor I couldn't tell if it was a 2d picture or a model.
