I like the new design, its like a compromise between the old design from the un-remastered Star Trek and the one from Star Trek Enterprise.

I just like seeing the Defiant again.

I like the design too, but I wish they hadn't done it. The original model looked fine, and they shouldn't have had to feel the need to link the FX to match what was seen on ENT. They should have just done what they did with the warning buoy in "The Corbomite Maneuver." How many of you think we'll be seeing a multi-legged Loskene now?

P.S. At least with a new Tholian ship CGI, the chances of us getting an entirely new design for the S.S. Aurora in "The Way to Eden" have greatly improved.

I disagree; although the original Tholian model looked fine, it was still barely detailed, although with a distinct shape. Although the shape could've been kept closer to the original, I definitely love the paneling and textures.

One wonders what the SS Aurora will look like, then...

Hopefully something totally diffrent from the Tholian ship- not real hard considering.

I really dig the new Tholian ship- not too over the top.

So...I saw it and it was...
allright.

Good stuff:
-Great new Thoilan ships and Loskene's ship getting flipped end over end when Enterprise penetrates it's shields with (now blue) phasers.
-Loskene's shields are red when hit- reminding me of some video-game's shields.
-Nice exit scene of Enterprise (sorta a banking turn away from the camera's view).
-The Defiant is drifting at a strange angle to the Enterprise with a sickly green glow.
-When Enterprise is (somehow) thrown clear of the Tholian's web, the lighting is completely difftent and the background stars are much more sparce- making the ship's exterior darker. Nice.

Bad stuff:
They did NOT update Loskene's appearance at all- he looks even crappier than in the original when they should have gone with at least the head from the ENT version.
"Ghost Kirk" still pops out of existance instead of fading out and that still looks like the cheap 1960's compositing that it originally was. At other scenes, "ghost kirk" looks quite cool- particularly when he's on the bridge.

Something else that really annoyed me- I'd forgotten just how big a DICK McCOY IS in this episode!
Seriously- he's blatantly insubordanate in front of the crew.
Waaaay over the line for any officer in any version of Trek.
-The Enterprise jumps a whole PARSEC in a second when escapeing at only 80% power?!?
Better than a Galaxy class, pallie.
-How do they bean aboard the Defiant when the ship does not register on any sensors? Yeah.

-Still plenty of scaling errors with the Tholian ships (as they matched the original for some reason a bit too closely). That or there are two sizes of webspinners (someting I discount completely).

I give the whole thing a 6 out of 10- good in some areas, a let down in others.

Sorry to hear that there was no updating of Loskene, but at least the shots of the Enterprise you described sound neat.

I used to play Star Fleet Battles. If I recall correctly, all of the Tholian ships in the game had web spinners, regardless of their size. In fact, they specifically had small ships called Web Tenders that helped maintain the webs.

"The Enterprise jumps a whole PARSEC in a second when escapeing at only 80% power?!?"

2.7-something parsecs, I think he said. And it's not too surprising, since they phased completely out of the universe and then back in.

What I find odd is that the Defiant didn't register on any sensors, but they could see it. None of the sensors can detect visible light?

Yeah, right? That viewscreen aint a window, after all. [Wink]

Y'know, the Tholians really were not being unreasonable, considering they assumed Spock was full of shit with his "we're answering the distress call from the invisible, undetectable ship" routine.

Something I just realised- they cut Spock's "Ah, the famous Tholian punctuality" line.
or however the exact line goes

Is this also one of the few time the transporter room had a viewscreen?

The transporter room always had a viewscreen, I believe. Most of the time it was never seen.
