From Section 31:

"[Richard Arnold] gave a cryptic hint about the uniform Jolene Blalock will wear on the show: "T'Pol's uniform outdoes even Seven's for it makes Seven of Nine's catsuit uniform look like a moo-moo compared to the new Vulcan female's."

So what they're really saying here is: "Never mind that she's a Vulcan and isn't supposed to look "sexy", and never mind that Vulcans are supposed to be intellectual giants. Let's parade our sexy, sultry Vulcan female co-star around in a uniform that even Madonna would be ashamed of wearing, so that our target audience of teenage males will tune in every Wednesday night in masturbatory readiness." Jesus H. Christ. Why don't they just have her be nude?

Sorry for the rant. This might just be a made-up rumor, but once I read it, I just had to post. (Maybe I should have put this in the Flameboard )

Richard Arnold doesn't know dick about the current happenings on the set... he hasn't been involved on the show for years.

So either he heard from some old connection of his and there is truth in this or heard from some crappy internet source the same as any of us, in which case there may be none.

Let's wait and see.

Vulcans have no emotions. Therefore, they do not have any reason to wear clothing in moderate climates. In other words, she'll be ... NUDE!

(Just kidding)

I found a pic of Jolene Blalock, very hot looking girl.

Although I do find it sad that Star Trek has degraded to needing models in skimpy revealing outfits to keep ratings up. TNG worked fine without a Seven of Nine-type character. Ok, sure Troi wore a couple revealing dresses in the beginning. Which I find odd that she as a lieutenant commander, eventually a full commander, didn't wear a Starfleet uniform until the 5th(?) season. At first I thought she was a civilian counselor.

Troi first wore standard uniform due to Captain Jellico's protests in 'Chain of Command' in season 6. But I don't think there's anything wrong with the 'babe factor', it's widespread in all TV. You name one mainstream sci-fi show today which doesn't have a 'babe'. Granted they may not all be wearing skin tight suits, but shows such as these follow this trend:

X-Files - Scully
B5 - Ivanova
Lexx - Zev
Stargate - Carter
Farscape - (a few - don't know their names)
Andromeda - (ditto)
First Wave - Jordan
Buffy - Sarah Micelle Geller (and others)
Darl Angel (I forget her name - only watched in a couple of times)

But Trek itself has always used this as a ratings pulling device. Uhura in the short skirts, Troi with her cleavage, Dax - just plain beautiful, and Seven - need I say more.

Not to drag off topic, but isn't it true that the producers of X-Files DIDN'T want Gillian Anderson to play Scully because she WASN'T a "babe?"

"makes Seven of Nine's catsuit uniform look like a moo-moo"

Excuse me...a moo-moo? A MOO-MOO?!

"Captain, do you think my uniform is a moo-moo?"

"Why no I think-MOO-MOO!"

Ah, I see...

Hmm, classy, though I can't see her fitting into the role of a serious Vulcan, but in truth i can't really pre-judge and make a abitrary statement like that just because of these pictures here. But aren't there some rules against posting these sort of pictures on this forum....? (got any more... lol)

There's nothing wrong with a little cheesecake (Why yes, I'd love another slice...) Wowzers! I dunno, my original reaction to 7of9 was that she wouldn't be a good character and that (following the trend of about 79% of Hollywood) the actress playing her would be merely beautiful and nothing more. (*cough*Denise Richards*cough*) But actually it soon became evident that I really liked the 7of9 character, and that while Jeri Ryan isn't Meryl Streep or anything she did do a very good job with that character. The fact that she looked like that in a catsuit didn't hurt either.

As for TNG not needing any cheesecake, I do seem to remember a certain tectical officer seducing Data in the 3rd ep. TOS? Like, every other episode had some other hottie strutting around in a miniskirt, and don't even get me started on the green girls. I only ever find this sort of thing offensive if there is no other aspect to the characters aside from cheesecake.

Sexist? I dunno. I seem to remember more than a few episodes where a certain Captain had his tunic either torn or removed completely. A surprising number of my female friends had a thing for Spock. What can I tell you? The ladies love the Spock.

So up with Vulcan Hotties. Down with lame late night cable pretexts for showing scantily clad women. Cheesecake is only bad if you haven't had dinner first.

I have that issue of Maxim, and I guess I'm the only one around here who doesn't find those pictures very flattering. Way too much eye shadow.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

No you're not. As I said the last time those pictures were posted, they don't really make her look attractive at all, in my opinion.

Sex sells. We had those super short skirts in the Original Series (as stated by Dax when visiting that era)... I think there was LESS sex appeal in Voyager then there was in TOS. Being a non-married 18 year old male, I welcome a hot looking woman on the show. This does not deside weather or not I'm gonna watch the show.

People who watch the show just for the t&a need to learn about something called porn.

Well, after reading Berman's interview in TV Guide, I'm pleased to say that the "Vulcan sex kitten" outfit was just a nasty old rumor. T'Pol will be wearing a standard Vulcan military uniform.

Richard Arnold, wherever you are, you are a dumbass.

Am I the only one that realizes Sex is a part of human nature ?

You'd all be happy with an hour of continous technobabble , and no crew interaction outside the bridge.

Why exactly cant Vulcan females have an ounce of beauty? Can you tell me Kim Cattral AKA "Valaris" was'ent great looking ? I mean shes a babe , even now on Sex And The City , no matter what her age is , shes hot

Also , the "moo - moo" analagy , considering the average Trek Fans definition of riske , probley wont be that bad.

Um who says vulcans cant be sexy?

The Romulan Senate.

"Can you tell me Kim Cattral AKA 'Valaris' was'ent great looking ?"

I keep seeing references to this. Am I the only one who had no idea Valeris was supposed to be "attractive"? For that matter, am I the only one who didn't think she particularly was?

Posted by Dr. Obvious (Member # 271) on :

Yes.

Posted by The Red Admiral (Member # 602) on :

Yes, it is indeed true. T'Pol will not be parading arond Enterprise in what looks like only body paint. This an excerpt from Trek Today, and was provided by Berman himself:

"T'Pol - It has now been officially confirmed that this character was originally intended to be a younger version of the Original Series character T'Pau. As T'Pol, Jolene Blalock will be playing a "sensual young woman," similar to Valeris in 'Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.' Despite what Trek archivist Richard Arnold recently suggested, she will not be dressed in a catsuit, but rather as a Vulcan officer. Even while dressed conservatively, she will still have to work hard to earn the respect of her fellow crew members. "Our captain, as well as most of the other Starfleet people we'll come to know, does have a certain animosity towards the Vulcans."

Well, I've always thought that Kim Cattral was sexy. But, that could be due to the first I ever saw her in a movie. It was called Porky's and she was having sex with the men's basketball coach in the men's locker room.

When I first heard the rumors that her outfit was going to be tighter than Jeri Ryan's I'll admit I wasn't too happy about it either. Especially since Vulcans have always seem to be sexually and physically conservative, in my opinion of course. Knowing that she isn't going to be just the token eye candy relieves quite a bit.

And Dr. Obvious, sex is a part of human nature. I just don't think it's something that dictates Vulcan clothing behavior. After all, they live on a hot desert world. It seems logical to me that they'd wearing baggy flowing clothing to protect their skin much like our Arab nomads do in the Sahara. Sex isn't bad; it's just not in the Vulcan clothing logic.

The Human Nature comment was targeted more towards those people that thought putting sex on TV as a "sleasy" or "wrong" things to do , but i agree

Of course a more revealing outfit would help her mix in with the humans...

Why quote the paraphrase on Trek Today, when you can quote Berman himself from TVGuide? :-)

Berman: "...T'Pol. She's played by Jolene Blalock, who is not only a great actress but also a whole lot of wonderful lady to look at."

TVGuide: "Which is a sore subject with a lot of Web Trekkers. They're having trouble with the concept of T'Pol being 'Enterprise' version of Seven of Nine. Granted, Blalock is a major dish, but how sexy canor shoulda stoic, emotionless Vulcan be?"

Berman: "Well, Kim Cattrall was a pretty damn sexy Vulcan, so I don't think we're starting anything new. T'Pol is certainly going to be a sensual young woman."

Oh boy. The first officer is going to be Playvulcan's Playmate of the Year of 2150...

Velaris was suposed to be sexy??

I guess it was the mole. And the whole trying trying to sabotage galactic peace. I don't know about the rest of you, but that's kind of a turn off for me.

Chicks with power and plans man , thats a huge turn on

Valeris has that subtle Beauty , no one says you have to dress like a slut to be beautiful.

All I'm saying is that since TOS , Trek has capitalized on the "Sex Sells" thoery , from Orion Slave Girls to , Kirks weekly hotties , Kirks Shirtless escapades , the afore mentioned Uhura skirts , of course Troi , Dax and the most blatant of all , Seven Of Nine.

Its Part of Trek and part of SciFi

Stingray: And the way they cut her hair. Am I imagining things, or did they actually shave some of it off in front of her ears?

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

Yay, I noticed that in Star Trek 6, too. The makeup artists did shave her sideburns off for the movie. That's kinda odd since usually the artists just little points on the sideburns.

Anyone who's seen Kim Cattrall's other work would think Valeris is sexy.

Unfortunetly, I've only seen part of one episode of "Sex in the City". Though it was VERY funny. The blonde bimbo bitch is naked inside the firefighter's gear and a station has to respond to a call.

Firefighter: Lady, get the fuck out of my gear!
Blonde: Um...
Firefighter: LADY, GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY GEAR!

And she's left standing there naked as the fire trucks roll away.

No real point to this post, except to share something that was quite amusing.
