All fluff, no new information, really.

I love the logo, but I'm hoping the new series isn't going to be titled just Star Trek. The 2009 movie is confusing enough in that regard.
Also, I noticed that the text in the teaser said "new crews". As in plural. I've been trying not to be a rumor monger, but I wonder if this hints at the rumor of this being an anthology series having some truth to it.

We may end up with an anthology series or perhaps an ensemble cast. Most recent example that comes to mind with a large cast of separate groups that come together in the end is The Expanse.

As a canadian the part I'm not 100% sure of - is even if CBS offers a monthly subscription to their streaming service to watch the series .. is it ONLY good for the USA - or will other countries be able to get in on this?

There's also a new Star Trek Beyond trailer, which is a bit better than the first one.
We now have a proper name for the series: Star Trek: Discovery!
We also have our first look at the titular ship! Link to the video in the starships forum!

So that would be STD in short.

Yeah. The first article I read on the announcement said that the official abbreviation was to be DSC. I thought to myself, "That's weird that they would announce an official abbreviation. What's wrong with ST... Oh. Ohhhhhhh..."

What's wrong with 'DSC'? Until now we have
- ENT - TOS - MOV - TNG - DS9 - VOY
And now we have in addition 'DSC'.

I like DSC.
And I prefer VGR (which was what was used in the Okudas' Encyclopedia) to VOY as well.

VGR looks a lot like V'GER to me, so I prefer VOY, but I guess there is plenty of room for both of us...

Absolutely nothing is wrong with DSC as an abbreviation. I was commenting that The Powers That Be were trying to head off people referring to it as STD.

See, "DSC" is close enough to "DS9" that I would have gone with "DIS". Which also fits with the pattern of "ENT" and "VOY". (Not that that matters if you use "VGR", of course...)
