Oddly, I think the best part of it was how well the TAS music fit the scene.

True, though I think my favorite thing was how they used that purple color for the cube and the Borg outfits. Because that is 100% what TAS would have done.

Curious about the creative decision which puts some random background character at Ops rather than Data, who was usually sat there and was in this scene though no dialogue I think.

We don't see anyone at Conn in the scene, but we do see a female officer at Ops.
When they're about to exit the nebula, we see that LaForge, Data, Shelby and Wesley are in engineering.

In the spirit of the fan-servicey references that are all the rage these days, they should have put a clown at ops and a Ferengi in a gorilla suit at conn.

Did you fail to notice the Kzinti at Conn, and the open turbolift door at the rear of the bridge? Both fan-service references to TAS.
