It's called "Faith of the Heart." It was originally song by Rod Stewart for the Patch Adams soundtrack.

Yup, and contrary to what has been reported, it still *is* sung by Rod Stewart, albeit editted and with a slightly faster tempo.

Absolutely untrue. It's Watson, as per the credits. Evidently, Watson took it upon himself to emulate Rod as closely as he could.

It is definitely Russell Watson singing, not Rod Stewart. The ENT version appears to be sung in a different key and has a new orchestration. The full version will be available on Watson's forthcoming album.

A Rod Stewart song. For a Science Fiction show. What has the world come to? Is this how the producers thought they could 'hip' the show up? I don't really see a big Rod Stewart (as sung by Russell Watson) fan/Star Trek fan crossover, but maybe it's just me. I'm really hoping they'll get a new song. This one is drek. Easily my least favorite thing abou thte new series, which, incidentally I do like quite a bit...

I see there are a couple of online petitions to have the song changed. Not to another song, but to a tedious orchestral theme like all the others had. So, it seems people don't want their Trek changing too much. Personally, while I don't like the song, I don't have a problem with the idea of a song in the credits.

I love the opening credits. I didn't think I would, but I think it does a fine job of capturing humanity's demeanor at the point where the series takes place.

Indeed. Learned scholars have hypothesized that the choice of a soft-rock anthem symbolizes America's unwillingness to develop and evolve a more contemporary musical awareness, a clinging to the sounds of yesteryear which provides some security in a changing, uncertain world. Perhaps as the series progresses the theme will gradually transmogrify, coming to embrace such diverse elements as Hip-Hop, Trance, Garage and Extreme Hardcore Deep Vibe Underground Balearic Beats. Word. 8)

I have to agree with Proteus. Even though it is a wide departure from the traditional variation-on-the-Alexander-Courage-theme, I like the song, and I really think it does fit the feeling and emotion of the show. Enterprise is not a traditional Trek, but, it does go back to the original idea. 'Wagon Train to the stars' and I like the new series.
