Here's a doozy.. i open my local paper, and pull out the trash magazine (you know the one with the celebrity interviews, horoscope blah blah blah) On the cover are Archer, T'Pol & Reed posing in one of the quasi futuristic photo shoot areas and hold an array of current personal electronics
Reed has a video camera (which he is looking grim and holdfing like it was a weapon of course) Archer and T'Pol seem to have palm pilots or remotes in there hand, which they are brandishing like tricorders the blurb 'Explore the New Frontier' smaller blurb 'Of High Tech Living'
A couple more pictures of them inside are accompanied by price quotes and ordering information, but there isnt a mention of Star Trek in the article beyond the first sentence.
Bizarre, huh?

Next they'll be in priceline.com adds.

Sounds like good publicity to me.

Hey, if it's got Jolene Blalock in it in her little uniform...it can't be all bad...
Marketing tends to work better when you can see it rather than just hear it described though....

Any potential, CapCom-wise?

Bernd: See those tricorders Archer and T'Pol are holding? Obviously, those are too advanced by TOS standards. Enterprise sucks my left nut!

They can't possibly have VIDEO camera's!

::shrugs:: If I can grow accustomed to William Shatner singing the praises of PriceLine.com, then I can stand Reed, Archer, and T'Pol selling personal electronics. Now if we could get an ad of Hoshi Sato selling a ThighMaster, then we're in the business...

Er...Actors Appear In Parade Magazine, Article Cheesy isn't quite headline news.
Posted by CaptainMike (Member # 709) on :
Of course Shatner rarely does ads while wearing his uniform

Or only halfway through the first season of his show.

"Parade" magazine, as it is called in my area, while a rag, is not quite trash. Many "prestigious" actors agree to be interviewed for articles, whether they are the cover story or just a Brady interview. Indeed, one might argue that it is surprising a show with so few viewers (relative to the top-rated shows) is already being featured on the cover of a magazine that is not a dedicated entertainment magazine.
P.S. I have never seen a horoscope in my version of "Parade"

In Fact, "Parade" did something similar with the Voyager crew (Pre-Seven) a few years back.

I was similarly surprised to see Enterprise on the cover of the Dallas Morning News's television section as one of the few shows that's working this season. Not that I don't agree, but you don't often see Star Trek getting any mainstream publicity.

I don't know...Voyager got pretty decent press coverage when it was kicking off. That might have been more newsworthy due to its link to Paramount's great network experiment, I suppose.

It was supposed to have transwarp drive...

And if my grandmother had wheels, we'd stick her on the porch and charge people 5 a go to ride the freak car-woman.

Isn't your grandmother worth more then five pounds?

Not if she had wheels...

LOL. I love it. I vaugely remember that crap. I was only 7 years old when pepsi released it, and I was 7 when they took it off the shelves. hehe. I do remember trying it, but I can't remember whether or not it was any good.

I didn't like Crystal Pepsi. However, I think that's more a result of my disliking Pepsi in general. The only soft drinks I like are Dr Pepper and Diet Dr Pepper. I can stand Mr Pibb, and I tolerate Coca-Cola Classic and Diet Coke.

I cant abide by regular Pepsi.. its just bad. I like Coke a lot better.. my favorite soft drink is Mountain Dew, by far.. cant get enough
1992? I'm sure I remember someone having some of that stuff in eighth grade, but that would have been '94-'95...
Posted by CaptainMike (Member # 709) on :
I think production discontinued in 94 and the existing bottles would have been selling for a while.
The unveiling was on April 13, 1992 (in the three test cities: Dallas, Denver and Providence (i was so lucky!))
Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :
You know...I never tried Crystal Pepsi... if they pulled it in '94...I would have been a senior in high school. But I think it was still around when I started college.
I do remember the Crystal Gravy SNL skit though. Chris Farley pouring it over turkey...classic
Posted by CaptainMike (Member # 709) on :
Thats the first time ive ever heard of anyone getting Julia Sweeney and Chris Farley confused.
Whoops...I remembered Chris Farley...must've been thinking of the Schlitz Gay commercial....

Jeff: By ride, I actually literally mean "Ride". For your 5, you'd sit on her lap, and she'd drive up the road and back again. What fun!
We never did get crystal Pepsi over here. Of course, we never had that silly new/classic Coke thingie either.
We did have TAB clear in the early 90s. Opinion was very much divided, but I liked it. It's gone now though, sniff. My only conselation was that you could pull the outer label off of Cherry Coke cans to reveal a new design. That was nice.
*sniff*

The unopened bottle of Crystal Pepsi on eBay sold for $31.00.
I've really gone mad.. I've bid on a bottle.. if you dont hear from me.. its because there is some danger to drinking 9 year old soda that i am too foolish to recognize
