I know it's not canon or anything, but I read today in the ST:TNG Roleplaying sourcebook, that the length of the Akira is 465m, while the Norway and Steamrunner's are both between 360-370. This book went into some detail as to their origins and such, not too shabby. I book itself is pretty well writen, however it's rather expensive so I personally would never buy it.

Do they come up with any new ship designs? Non canon of course. Maybe you could post a couple scans. Oh wait you said you didn't buy it. Never Mind. But did they have any original designs?

I don't argue about ship lengths. I'll leave that to the more educated.

If we're talking about the Role Playing book, yes, it indeed has new designs. I used to spend a lot of time at the nearest book store just to memorize the designs. They're pretty ugly actually and isn't worth buying for the schematics. Heck, even canon ships are drawn all wrong like the Miranda, Olympic and Sabre, all three complete with triangular escape pods.

I seem to remember that among the ships present, there was the Miranda and Olympic, the New Orleans (vastly out of proportion), the Sabre, Norway and Steam Runner (the closest to the real models but still not right), the Deneva (think tiny saucer with huge hunderside engines, ugly!!!), the Rigel (like the Deneva but with a big container-like engineering hull between the engines, the Apollo (looks like a duck from the side), Niaraga (a galaxy saucer with longer engines and a thinner, longer engineering hull) and a few others I can't recall. It's worth a look but not much more.

The given lengths read like they are directly taken from the DS9TM, and those are scaled up by about 10 percent, at least for the ships of known size.

The Norway and Akira are about the same size, according to FC, and the Akira and Steamrunner are about the same size, according to "Favor the Bold" (DS9).
