I know my posts of this sort usually give info, but this time I'm requesting it. Does anyone have a good copy of "The Void" from which they can make shots? There's a pretty decent scene wherein Janeway is looking at the Federation charter. I have a DivX of the ep, but the resolution is t3h suCk.
I wouldn't mind knowing what that little screen of hers says.
Thanks!

to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of interstellar law can be maintained, and
to promote social progress and better standards of living on all worlds,
. . . et cetera. The rest, alas, was not visible, though if the above is any indication it would be the United Nations charter re-worded.

Sounds more like it was taken from FJ's Tech manual. The wording sounds about right and I'm sure someone on here has a ready link to support (or refute) this.

It's close, but the FJ version is much longer. I would say that Okuda and company simply reworded the UN version, since editing down FJ and having it look just like the UN Charter would be a heckuva coincidence. On the other hand, both are in all caps.
For reference and comparison, here is the relevant part of FJ's version:
quote: ARTICLES OF FEDERATION
We the intelligent life-forms of the United Federation of Planets determined
to save succeeding generations from the scourge of intra-galactic war which has brought untold horror and suffering to our planetary social systems, and
to reaffirm faith in the fundamental intelligent life-form rights, in the dignity and worth of the intelligent life-form person, to the equal rights of male and female and of planetary social systems large and small, and
to establish conditions under which justice and mutual respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of interplanetary law can be maintained, and
to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom,
. . . and so on. "The Void" version is much, much closer to the UN Charter, visible here.
