That's pretty sweet. I know they always intended to use the runabout set for this but forget why they couldn't.

That's spectacular! I get why they went with a completely new shuttle—they wanted the hot rod factor and the freedom to create a new cockpit design. But damn, it would've made more sense to use the shuttle that was built in from the beginning...

Always a favourite design of mine. Much better than the delta flyer. Saw another video of this at Rob Bonchunes site a long time ago.

Other than the cockpit window (and arguably the pit itself up front), there's no reason the Flyer set couldn't have fit. Somebody just wanted a Starfleet version of Superman's Kenner Supermobile.

Maybe they were hoping to crossover Superman with Star Trek on Voyager?

Nahh im sure some big $ Producer wanted that on the show.
