There's not much of a point in putting a lot of detail into a model that simply can't be seen. In a similar situation, I seem to remember reading that the NCC-1701 digital model used for TOS Remastered has been revised to include less detail since they were using up valuable computer power and time to render details that even high definition televisions wouldn't catch.
