The Maquis-style hull holds the engines. All you REALLY need between the two sections is the power feeds and a couple of hallways. But if the insides of one hull (whichever one) have ALREADY been GUTTED to make way for the retrofitted equipment, then it should be no big deal to install some custom corridors.
