I'm starting this thread just for fun, and to come up with some Sovereign-class ships. List some real (ie, one's we know exist, including the class ship) Sovereign's and one's you've made up. So come on people, crank out some Sovereign's!!!
Here's mine:

...except of course there couldn't because the USS Constitution and the USS Galaxy have been referred to. The USS Sovereign or USS Royal Sovereign hasn't.
And name the episode or film where it was stated that the first ship of a class and the class itself always have the same name, let alone exactly the same name.
The reference in the encyclopedia to "the starship we call The City of New Orleans" is a joke, but there's actually no reason why the class ship of the New Orleans class couldn't be the USS Cty of New Orleans.

Rodimus Prime: "Don't panic. Stay calm until we know what's going on. Then we'll panic."
There are examples where the class is named after a different ship to the first one build. There are also examples of where the class has a totally different name (eg the RN Tribal class, HMS Zulu, etc. never had a ship called HMS Tribal).
There's no reason why Starfleet wouldn't sometimes shorten long names.
Or if you want some justification for this example: why would the republican, classless Federation call a ship Sovereign? Royal Sovereign at least has the advantage of being named after a famous RN Battleship.

"The one, the only, THE 359!"
Well, as ID pointed out, the RN has a Tribal class w/o an HMS Tribal. The USN has a Nimitz class whose class ship is USS Chester W. Nimitz. So exactly which navies are these "most navies"?

I didn't know about the Nimitz...of course, the class of the Oliver Hazard Perry is Oliver Hazard Perry-class, not just Perry-class. Maybe they don't want to be consistent.

The first ship of the USN's Nimitz-class is USS Nimitz, NO Chester W. added on to the name. I have a ship list direct from Navy public affairs.
And yes, Frank, it has an Oliver Hazard Perry-class USS Oliver Hazard Perry.

The Royal Sovereign class existed long before the Sovereign class, so let's just get rid of thatrumor that was broughty in here.

BTW- Federation Shipmaster-The U.S.S. Bozeman II NCC-1941-A is a Roderick-class destroyer. It's the first one of the class. It used to be the U.S.S. Roderick, but it was renamed to commemorate the crew of the Bozeman. Also, the first Bozeman, NCC-1941, is permenantly docked at Starbase 12. Source-Star Trek: The Next Generation Ship of the Line

As I may or may not have mentioned, I'm writing/creating my own Star Trek series based on a Sovereign-class ship, aptly named Star Trek Sovereign. It takes place on the Sovereign (and I named the captain after myself). I was thinking of adding a guest appearence of other Sovereign's and was at a lost for a name.

On registries, you pick a number you fancy.
I personally chose NCC-75089 for the USS Sovereign, because I wanted to use the new class to kick the numbers into the 75000s since seen on Data's scout ship in Insurrection. Any number will do, since none are canon. I do insist that people try and find obcure private reasons for picking certain numbers though....
I am not a believer in the NCC-1305-E, etc stuff.
I prefer to think that only the Enterprise has been so honoured. It would explain why the endless Lexingtons and Potemkins have always had new numbers. It'd be a slight to a crew if their exploits or deaths weren't sufficiently glorious to merit a letter-suffix.
Oh, and I hate long names. Even USS Dwight D. Eisenhower is a mouthful, and tricky to rattle off in the midst of battle, or if you are talking about lots of ships engaged in a battle:
"Sir, the Grand-Emperor-Constantine-of-the-Eastern-Roman-Empire has been hit, and the Antony Worral-Tomkinson reports heavy flooding in the galley!"
It ain't practical!

Well, I have episode 1 written. I have since decieded to make some changes, and will need to re-wright it. I do have a list of characters, although I probably will make a couple of changes for episode 2. Here's the list:
Captain: Captain Brandon Grasmick
First Officer: Commander Alexandra Ryan
Operations Officer: Lt. Commander Tumok
Chief Engineer: Lt. Commander Aaron Peterson
Science Officer: Lt. Commander Mark Thomas
Tactical Officer: Lt. Commander Samuel 'Tac' Wilson (this may be one of the characters I change)
Chief Medical Officer: Lt. Commander 'Mo' Edwards (this may be one of the characters I change)
Ship's Counselor: Lt. Commander Anne Hathaway

Yeah, that is who I named the character after. I was at a loss as to what to name the character until I was pageing through the Encyclopedia and found the listing on the Hathaway, so that is what I named the Sovereign's counselor.
