anyway, look in the upper right hand corner - that is the wreck of a Galaxy class engineering section...

go watch the episode.

Hmm...didn't we come to the conclusion that it might be a Nebula the last time we talked about this? Or am I remembering wrong?

No, you're correct. We never really decided, I don't think, although my personal opinion is that it's probably an updise-down GCS.

I'm with TSN - to me it looks more like the remains of a Galaxy than a Nebula. I wonder which exact Galaxy it is meant to be.

Could be any Galaxy - to me its upside down Gal, since you can see the deflector dish shape - when you watch it on TV - not the vid cap. and the Neb deflector dish has some wierd curves in it - where as the Gal dish is more 'eye' shaped.

It could be the actual Galaxy since we've seen her in Chintoka before.

Wait, that thing in the very top corner? Looks like a Saber to me. As for the engineering hull to the left of it, most likely a Nebula. If you look at the back end of it, you notice the nacelle pylos don't go straight across like a Galaxy. The pylons actually meet the hull farther forward. You can still see part of the engineering hull hanging off. Also, if this is a Nebula, the saucer isn't too far away. Look just to the right of the Defiant's deflector. There is also a Miranda saucer just to the left of that too

Hmmm, seems like I was wrong. I watched the episode and yes, there appears to be hull aft of the pylons. Nebula it is.

Here we go again. . . that's a Nebula, period. You can see where the whole saucer has been blown off the top of the secondary hull. If that was a Galaxy, then not only would it have had it's whole neck blown off, but the bottom of the secondary hull too (because that's what you can see in the pic). With that level of damage, there wouldn't be any 2ndary hull left! Certainly nothing forward of the pylons.

No, if you turned that wreck over you'd see the largely-undamaged belly of a Nebula.

*looks at the back end and the pylons* Well, whaddaya know...? Okay, so it's a Nebula... :-)

Oh, and, since someone mentioned the Galaxy, what does the encyclopedia-2.5 say about it (if anything)? Was it supposed to be destroyed, or not?

Well at least the crew remember to turn off the lights when they left.

TSN: The encyclopedia says it was heavily damaged, but not destroyed.

Wait a second, the encyclopedia actually mentions this Nebula Class from CFOE??? Wow, do they give a name at least or a registry?? And what the hell do they mean the ship is heavily damaged; if you blow off a Nebula's saucer, wouldn't it be plausable that the ship would be beyond repair, not destroyed but not salvageable.

Yep, I'd assume that TSN was talking about the USS Galaxy from "TotP". It probably survived that battle (I hope so, anyway).

I've noticed a very stupid line in "TCFoE". Near the end of the episode Sisko says that the Defiant was "the finest ship I've ever commanded". Well, it's the only ship he's ever commanded!

Well that's why it's his finest. Aside from the Saratoga, what ships has Sisko served on?

USS Livingston
USS Okinawa (as XO)
USS Saratoga (as XO)
USS Defiant (as CO)
USS Defiant (the 2nd one, as CO)

He also served at Utopia Planitia, Deep Space Nine, Starbase 375 and one more starbase early in his career (forget what it is though)

I'm glad someone else noticed that "finest ship" line. I actually started laughing when I heard him say that... *L*

Maybe...just maybe Sisko temporarily commanded a prototype vessel at Utopia Planitia. He probably commanded it to test the warp field and everything, you know?

He met Curzon Dax at Pelios Station, IIRC.
I think Curzon/Odo mentions something about a dancer on it in 'Facets'.

Yeah, it's a Nebula -- a Galaxy-class would have had more swept-forward pylons right under the nacelle.

I think he also oversaw the construction of orbital habitats on Earth.

Sisko and Verad Dax give a fairly detailed history of their meeting in "Invasive Prceedures".

When was it mentioned that Sisko served aboard the Livingston? I'm sure you're right, I just can't remember.

It's entirely possible that Sisko commanded another ship while serving at Utopia Planitia. We know that Picard captained a ship we've never heard about. See my Picard's second command thread for more on this (if you want).

Keep in mind that Sisko wasn't a Captain until a year after he got the Defiant. It seems unlikely that he would have commanded another ship, before the Defiant, when he was only a Commander in rank.
