In "The visitor", Nog was captain of a starship. Did they mention which class of starship? You see, I found this pic of the bridge: http://kcohn.simplenet.com/alidarjarok/deepspace9/thevisitor/Visit56.jpg
My question is this, if the ship-class wasnt mentioned, and if it is some sort of "new" class, does anyone know if the ship can be seen on one of the displays in the background? And if so, anyone know where to find a better pic?

It was just the Defiant. Nothing new.

Yes, the MSD can be seen peeking from behind Nog's command chair, and it's the familiar nose of a Defiant class ship all right.

I'm somewhat disappointed...

Well, they needed the Defiant for the plot. Using another ship wouldn't make sense.

I didn't see the episode, so I ask who is that piloting the ship?
It's not Dax........is it?

Jadzia and Bashir were working in Engineering, if memory serves.

Why would Nog be captain of the Defiant? It just makes no sense! All the other crewmembers of DS9 could have been made Captain before him! My god!

That is Jadzia, IIRC.

Nog is captain because that's several decades after DS9.

You RC, Frank. It's Jadzia.

Nog is commanding the Defiant because he's the one who took the ship out of the shipyard it was mothballed. But we now know the actual fate of the Defiant, and unfortunately Jadzia...

Not necessarily! That COULD be the new Defiant, and since Ben sisko was officially dead so early in that timeline, Dukat maybe didn't kill Jadzia. The solution stands!

Oh, and as long as I'm nitpicking, that WAS the real timeline that occurred, and the one Ben entered in the end, where he didn't die, was an alternative one.

Good point Nimrod. Since Sisko was dead it's perfectly logical that the original Defiant would still be around and Dax too.

Well, yeah, since the Dominion War apparently never happened in the original timeline, I'd say it's darn plausible. However, neither the Defiant being decommisioned after only 50 years or the continued suggestion that those uniforms would ever be designed makes any sense to me :-)

Well, military tech grows outdated the fastest. A ship dedicated to a military mission would have difficulty coping with a changing environment, especially if it was small and thus offered little room for upgrades and additions. I have no trouble with the Defiant being retired more or less immediately after the Dominion war.

And in "Visitor", apparently the Klingons got to keep DS9. Perhaps they took a less reconciliatory stance against Dominion shipments, pre-"Call to Arms", and thus prevented the Dominion from establishing a foothold and the whole war from happening? That would leave Jadzia Dax alive, the Defiant out of job, and the DS9 a place of no strategic value as long as there was no safe passage to Gamma. On the minus side, it would also slow down Nog's seemingly skyrocketing career, too...
