It looks like there is a new Borg cube design, and it's... GREY! I like it very much, it has a more futuristic look. And it is also clearer that there is top and bottom. ------------------ Meddle not in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! It's among the smallest truly cubical Cubes so far. It almost looks as if it was built to be a match to the Voyager...Don't I even see a hangar door for taking in our favorite starship? I mean the lower part of the side facing the ship in the first pics, between the smooth vertical plates. This could be a dedicated Voyager-hunter, built so that bigger Cubes need not waste their valuable time with such trivial pursuits. Timo Saloniemi

Look, and compare for yourself. I would agree when you say that the classic Cube in the picture looks somewhat small. ------------------ Meddle not in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! (-=\V/=-) [This message has been edited by Altair (edited May 19, 2000).]

Is the classic cube the same one used for First Contact, or is it different? Boris

These are the models used so far (from what I know):Physical model: DS9, TNG, all episodes, length/width/height: 3km CGI model: Voyager, size variable (picture above shows a smaller one from 'Scorpion, part 2') CGI model2: First Contact, Escape-pod version, size: probably meant as 3km. CGI model3: The new Cube ------------------ Meddle not in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! The First Contact cube was actually built as a physical model as seen in the TNG Sketchbook.------------------ "Forgive me if I don't share your euphoria!" (Weyoun to Dukat, Tears of the Prophets) Dax's Ships of STAR TREK

Yes, and the Dark Frontier cube was supposedly 28 cubic kms in volume, which brings it to just about the FC size as quoted in Cinefex - a little over 3km (Cinefex gives a 2-mile figure). The one from TNG is smaller, around 2km or so. It would be good if we could scale this one precisely once for all times since it doesn't appear more than twice. Rick Sternbach was talking about describing 5km, 10km and 15km cubes to the writers, crew complements and all. I don't know if these were ever seen onscreen or not. I stand corrected.Anyway, I estimate this one to be about 1.2-1.5 km, since there are several clear comparable shots with Voyager. I also tried to make sence of the new look. The only thing I can think of is that it is the new 'Queen's Yacht'... ------------------ Meddle not in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! There is also that scoutship from "Hugh", mass 2.5 million metric tons. I don't think that we've actually seen it, though.Boris

Indeed there there is! And whe have not seen it on screen. To me it becomes clearer now the Borg have made different ships for specific missions. Although I think we need to wait until we have actually seen 'Unimatrix Zero' until we know for sure what the reason is for a new design. ------------------ Meddle not in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! I posted this comment in the "Voyager" Forum too. This new "Mini-cube" looks to me like it's been built with armor so it can take more hits and not blow up so easily. It is probably the Queen's new ship, made just for her to hunt down Voyager. She probably thought "Hey, the diamond was trashed too easy, maybe I'd better switch to the new armored model".------------------ Impact in 5-4-3-2-1.....more or less... -Crewman Tal Celes

I don't like it. It looks like they wanted something different, but they didn't feel like making all the little details of the old cube, so they just made most of it flat and grey...------------------ "Numerous painful experiences can be caused by having (and especially using) a large penis." -J. I can't remember where, but I read somewhere that the Ent-D had a mass of 800 000 metric tons. So the Brog scout from the 'hugh' episode would not be very large, as far as Borg vessels go.------------------ "Remeber, if there is a nuclear explosion, be sure to close your windows as the massive heat could cause objects within your home to catch fire". I kind of like it, though I despise the idea of it being a "command" ship.------------------ "While it is true that 15% of home accidents are caused by large penis related incidents, only a small number have ever been known to be fatal."

We did see Hughs scout ship though, even if it was crashed on the surface, check out my borg starship page: http://w1.314.telia.com/~u31412332/misc/borg.htm ------------------ "The Starships of the Federation are the physical, tangible manifestations of Humanitys stubborn insistence that life does indeed mean something." I'm putting together a Borg page as well, which is what I want the pictures for. I have a few that you don't seem to, which I'd be more than willing to share. But I'll need to upload them first.------------------ "While it is true that 15% of home accidents are caused by large penis related incidents, only a small number have ever been known to be fatal."

Sol system: That would be great. I have been thinking of making a borg page that shows cubes from each and every episode in voyager. Got any ideas and pics for that?BTW, which episodes have we seen cubes in anyway? Dark frontier, Hope and fear, Scorpion, Collective, Unimatrix zero are the ones I can think of. We didnt see a cube in Survival instinct did we? ------------------ "The Starships of the Federation are the physical, tangible manifestations of Humanitys stubborn insistence that life does indeed mean something." My pictures are mostly shots of Borg weapons in use, actually, with several screen captures (thanks to Frank) and some large pictures of models. I really should upload them someday soon.------------------ "While it is true that 15% of home accidents are caused by large penis related incidents, only a small number have ever been known to be fatal."

Re: The EntD weight. I remember seeing a weight for the EntD of 4.93 million tons (in Cinefantastique, I think). I personally like the 800,000 ton figure more, but I think the higher weight is from Rick Sternbach. (What does the DS9 Manual say?). Anyways, this higher weight would make a scout cube with a weight of 2.5 million tons about half the size of the EntD rather than 3 times larger------------------ When you're in the Sol system, come visit the Starfleet Museum
