I just saw the episode the sound of her voice in the UK and in the episode there is a bit when they want to increase to warp 9.5 but they are told the structural intergrity field cannot handle those speeds unless power was diverted. Surely, this is a serious design flaw for a ship not being able to sustain a speed higher than warp 9 without taking phasers offline or other crucial system offline. ------------------ "We set sail on this new sea because their is new knowledge to be gained and new rights to be won" John F Kennedy members.aol.com/mfwan/index.htm

Yeah, but this is a small price to pay for a ship that is really armored and can totally kick @$$. This ship wasn't really built for speed, but maneuverability and firepower.------------------ "How's your 13th chromosome? Tis true. I always thought the Defiant was too fast as it was, hell its gotta have some drawbacks.

Apparently, the plan for the Defiant as an anti-Borg weapon involved keeping fleets of them nearby critical areas, where they could then intercept an incoming attack. The ship wasn't really designed to have that wide of a range.------------------ "While it is true that 15% of home accidents are caused by large penis related incidents, only a small number have ever been known to be fatal." **** Read chapter one of "Dirk Tungsten in...The Disappearing Planet"!

It probably explains why the defiant has the nx registry and why only a few defiant class ships were made.------------------ "We set sail on this new sea because their is new knowledge to be gained and new rights to be won" John F Kennedy members.aol.com/mfwan/index.htm

Hmm? Presumably the Defiant kept the NX because they were still experimenting on it. But as far as we know, the class went into general production sometime during DS9. High speed or not, it's a tough little ship.------------------ "While it is true that 15% of home accidents are caused by large penis related incidents, only a small number have ever been known to be fatal." **** Read chapter one of "Dirk Tungsten in...The Disappearing Planet"!

I didn't think they made more than a half dozen to a dozen Defiant class ships? Maybe they went back into production? Hmm

Well, we have no idea how many Defiants have been produced. Half a dozen sounds about right for the number we've actually seen. But there isn't any data existing that suggests that production numbers would be so limited. And we've seen Defiant class vessels on both sides of the Federation.------------------ "While it is true that 15% of home accidents are caused by large penis related incidents, only a small number have ever been known to be fatal." **** Read chapter one of "Dirk Tungsten in...The Disappearing Planet"!

Including the Defiant herself, if you count MiaB.------------------ "Ultra Magnus is Undeniably Fun!" David Stevens, New York Magazine. "Total Complete excitement from start to finish!" -WPIX-TV, New York "This isn't a thrill ride, it's a rocket..." -Richard Caves, Time Magazine.

Which wasn't really the Defiant, of course, any more than Voyager has shuttles from the Enterprise D aboard. ------------------ "While it is true that 15% of home accidents are caused by large penis related incidents, only a small number have ever been known to be fatal." **** Read chapter one of "Dirk Tungsten in...The Disappearing Planet"!

Ahh you should know NEVER to use LOGIC in these conversations!------------------ "Remeber, if there is a nuclear explosion, be sure to close your windows as the massive heat could cause objects within your home to catch fire". Wise, wise words.

Actually, you should know never to use a good-quality stop-motion VCR or DVD to back up these discussions. With plain simple realtime viewing, there would be no problem with multiple Defiants in "MiaB" and the like...Timo Saloniemi
