Well, I think this topic would go here. Anyway, I just bought the Ships of the Line calendar. I'll tell you what's in it.

Cover: Galaxy class ship in Mark II drydock over red planet, possibly Mars. Saucer is labled USS Challenger NCC-71099, but the port side of the neck is labled Enterprise

January: pre-refit Enterprise-nil over Earth-like planet. Caption says Enterprise is monitoring late 20th century Earth

February: Enterprise-E and ringed gas planet, not Saturn. Faint nebular background. Caption says Ent-E heading to fight Borg, reference to ST: FC

March: Defiant NX-74205 and DS9. Caption says Defiant leaving on an early and classified mission

April: Voyager over grey planet. Caption says warring tribes on surface of planet

May: Nebula class ship. Saucer labeled USS Honshu NCC-60205, but is labeled elsewhere as USS Bogue NCC-70915. Caption says Starship Farragut on patrol along Cardassian Border (NCC-70915 was the ship chasing the Prometheus in "Message in a Bottle". Also the name Bogue appears on the weapons pod. Due to the angle of the ship, the text is skewed and may not actually read as Bogue, but it looks like Bogue to me. Nebula is incorrectly made CGI version i.e. windows to rim of saucer)

June: 3 Klingon BOPs hovering in the air of a rocky planet. Caption says BOPs are preparing for a day of wargames in undisclosed space of the Empire

Center: Utopia Planitia orbital yards. Like scene in "Relativity", but different. 10 Mark II drydocks, 3 McKinley-style drydocks, 2 spacedocks. numerous work bees, ships are: Enterprise-D, Thunderchild, 4 other Galaxys, 1 other Akira NCC-635XX, 1 Steamrunner, 1 Saber, 1 Excelsior, 1 Miranda or refir Constitution, and 1 ship with a Galaxy type saucer (could be either a Galaxy or a Nebula). One drydock appears to be empty.

July: Voyager and borg cube. Caption says Voyager being escorted by cube. Reference to "Scorpion"

August: Prometheus with incorrect registry NX-59650. Caption says Promethus moments prior to being hijacked by Romulans.

September: Shuttlecraft Chaffee and Badlands. Caption says Chaffee is on mission cataloging gaseous anomalies

October: 3 Romulan Warbirds (TNG style), one firing disrupters. Captions says warbirds are attacking Khitomer. Reference to Khitomer sneak attack where Worf's parents are killed.

November: Defiant NX-74205 passing exploding Cardassian Galor class ship. Caption says Defiant going through Dominion lines in bold maneuver that would be later known as "Sisko's Run"

December: Voyager crashing on ice planet a la "Timeless"

For the USS Prometheus, either registry, NX-74913 or NX-59650, can be correct. The correctness of one registry over that of another is relative to the selector's taste. I.e., the registry of the USS Zhukov is given as either NCC-62136 or NCC-26136. An okudagram and the model bear the former registry, while the encyclopedia mentions the latter registry. Many prefer the latter for this registry "fits" in with the registry of other known Ambassador Class starships. I prefer the former registry for this can be found on the model and is attested to by an okudagram. Two proofs of evidence. My selection is based on the quantity of evidence, not any preconceived ideas of class history or personal aesthitics. The USS Prometheus' registry of NX-74913 is supported by the dedication plate and the MSD and the registry of NX-59650 is supported by the model. Therefore, my preference is that the registry of the USS Prometheus is NX-74913 (two versus one.)

I am also happy to know that the NCC-70915 has a name-Bogue.

Bogue would make sense, and might not be a typo. It was the lead ship of a very distinguished class of WW2 escort carriers, and was a fine U-boat hunter in her own right.

I don't think quantity of evidence is good. It's quality. In other words, take onscreen evidence over the encyclopedia, &c.

In the case of the Prommie, however... Well, that's conflicting onscreen evidence. I'm still undecided on that one...

Shik, I'm afraid I don't have a scanner, but if you live in the States and there's a Tower Books you can visit, they'll have a copy to buy. All the new Star Trek calendars are out as well. I also found a book that is Shakespeare's Hamlet in the original Klingon. It has both Shakespeare's and the Klingon translation.

And the calendar says that there will be more starship photos in an upcoming book titled, "Star Trek: The Unseen Frontier: Declassified Images from the History of the Federation" It's said to be due out Winter 2001. I don't know if this is 6 months from now or 1 1/2 years from now. Also I don't know if it's new ship images or recycled ones. And it could be the book the Mike Okuda says he's working on or wanted to work on. We might finally get to see all the models used for the BOBW2 and Unification2 scenes.

Seen the Klingon book...quite funny, actually.

I was hoping not to have t'go out, Pop...being a lazy fuck, is all.

And in publishing, any mention of "winter" means the end of the year, so it's probably in 18 months.

Well, I checked the Simon and Schuster site and it mentions nothing of the new book yet. Their listing for upcoming books stopped at January 2001. It's still not fully clear though. It may be Feb. 2001 or all the way till December.

I use quantity for this measurement of data is easier and more consistent than quality. Quality for Star Trek has been on a lower priority for the studio than other considerations and every forum I have seen associated with this franchise has questioned the quality of the data presented for the starships, characters, and history. With quantity, the issue of quality is minimized by a simple question, which fact of data has more support?

What FX people? These are real photographs taken by Starfleet PR people. If a ship happens to have three different names on different parts of its hull, then this is just solid proof that all three of these ships were blasted to pieces in the war, and the pieces put together again to create a whole starship. :-P

the problem is that the ship clearly has two numbers. The hull has one, and the Encyclopedia confirms that number, however the computer displays in that episode lists another, and that is confirmed by the ship's dedication plaque.
I prefer to explain this as disinformation. I believe that the Prometheus bears a resemblance to an earlier ship design, and was intentionally painted with the wron hull number to try to disguise how truly revolutionary it was.

Well, we already know how messed up space scenes are. There's light everywhere, sound in a vacuum, etc. That, and the inconsistency of ship scaling... I think, from now on, I'm going to trust computer displays over space scenes...

Didn't you just talk about the Enterprise being a three-mile-long purple space cow, Tim? Eh? Eh?

As for the registry, I prefer the lower one just because of all the stubborn people who insist that registries much be chronological.

Oh, wonderful. I saw one of these at the bookstore yesterday, but figured I could wait until I had a real need to keep track of dates in 2001.

As for the Prometheus, I'm one of those people Frank likes to annoy, but I tend to go with the lower number as well, simply because many bright people spent many weary weeks working out convoluted explanations for it, and I wouldn't want their work to be in vain.

I asked Okuda about the "Unseen Frontier" book release, and he says he knows nothing about it. He speculates it's a Foundation Imaging project to showcase their unused CGI designs or something - most probably out in winter 2001-02 instead of winter 2000-01. His own stuff, including the "BoBW" and other rarely seen models, is still in preliminary stages, and it's not sure where it will all go. Too bad...

Wait, NCC-60205 for the USS Honshu? Does this mean that the 60205 reg. is the confirmed number or did the calender just make it up?

60205 is what I got from the pylon quick-shot when "Waltz" first aired. Later on, Foundation Imaging shots from SFF&M magazine seems to bear that out. It's a lock AFAIC.
